MIgrating NPrinting 16.2 to 17.3 on another Server

I am looking to migrate NPrinting 16.2 to version 17.3 on another server.

My plan is to :

1) migrate existing NPrinting 16.2 across to the new server

2) upgrade to 16.3 on the new server to take advantage of the project export tool.

3) then upgrade to 17.3

Has anyone had experience of doing this or has come up with a better solution ? Is it worth migrating from 16.2 to 16.3 or is this extra effort for little benefit ?

Hi Neil,

1. First of all be aware than NPrinting 16 and NPrinitng 17 are 2 different tools and you might not be able fully migrate all reports. Go to this link, scroll down and compare in the table which features you will miss if you move to NPrinitng 17 or higher (i suggest going to the latest as it has the smallest feature gap) https://help.qlik.com/en-US/nprinting/February2018/Content/Introduction/Introduction.htm
2. In terms of upgrading you should upgrade to 16.7 and then to February 2018

Moving reports to February 2018 would be for me separate task (not an upgrade, but new install from scratch and migration of reports where possible one by one - it might be time consuming)

Some features like task, jobs recipient imports will have to be created from scratch and some logics might not be valid anymore (variable filters, filters by measure, linked fields etc...) as nprinting 17 and 18 is using different technology and methods.

Hi, Lech.

Thanks for the quick response. I was aware that the 32bit NPrinting 16 was a very different animal to the 64bit NPrinting 17 although thanks for reminding me that version 18 is out now.

It seems to me that it might be a waste of time upgrading the old version prior to moving to the latest version on the new server as I would have to repeat everything again anyway.
