Migration Issues with Nprinting

Hi Group

We are performing migration of our  Qlikview (v11 to v12.30), Qlikview NPrintng designer (v18 .19.6 to v19.0.4)

As part of N-Printing report generation we are observing few issues.

While comparing the reports in both servers there is mismatch in data fields, load times and formatting.

Though we import the same files from old server we still see this issue.

Is there any pointers around these kind of issues?

Will there be any best practices to be followed when we perform such migration activities.

Your inputs will be highly appreciated

Note: You cannot 'just' upgrade the NPrinting Designer only.

  • NPrinting Designer and server MUST be the same version in your specific environment. You cannot run NP designer latest version with any older version of NPrinting server.  Unexpected behavior will ensue.
  • This also stands true for the QlikView desktop installed on the NPrinting server. It must be the same version as the QlikView server that NPrinting is connecting to.

Hi,

We supply detailed information on the Qlik NPrinting upgrading process in the official help site at the page https://help.qlik.com/en-US/nprinting/April2019/Content/NPrinting/DeployingQVNprinting/Qlik-NPrintin... and in the release notes of all versions. Refer to the Release Notes of the version you are installing. Following those instruction should result in a correct upgrade with no issues.

Using a Qlik NPrinting Designer of a different version that the Qlik NPrinting Server is not supported and could create issues. So be sure that all components you have installed are at the same version and try again.

If you have issues please be specific. What does it means "mismatch in data fields"? We need to replicate and understand the details to help you, so please share all the need details like screenshots, logs, the description of the steps that generated the error etc.

Best Regards,

Ruggero

Thanks for the valuable responses.
We are using the same versions for NPrinting designer and server which is v19.0.4
We are migrating projects related data where each project has details about project deadlines, state, RAG status, issues etc
We are creating new reports on migrated server, when we compare the reports with old server they are not matching though they are referring to same qlik dashboard files.
For example these are the following issues where I am observing:
1) If we want to display latest dashboard reload time on both reports, we are getting latest date on the old report but not on the new report.
we had generated the new report using the same qlikview dashboard files which are used on the same old server.
2) Some of the projects are missing in new report though they are existing in dashboard and database.

Please let me know if you need any other information.

Hi,

You can upgrade you 18.* installation to all 19.* simply by following the upgrading instructions. This process doesn't require that you create again the report templates or other entities. Everything will be migrated correctly.

After upgrading the original installation to the final Qlik NPrinting version you can run a complete backup and restore it in the new installation. Backup and restore are described at the page https://help.qlik.com/en-US/nprinting/April2019/Content/NPrinting/DeployingQVNprinting/Backup-restor...

The restored installation is a clone of the backuped one, so everything will be identical.

Ruggero
