NPrinting 17.2 Connection to a local qvw file

Hi,

I have installed Qlik NPrinting Server and Qlik NPrinting Engine on a windows server machine.

I have the Qlik NPrinting Designer installed on my  local machine.

When I try to create a connection to a qvw file which is on my local machine, the a cache status gets an error "Request has been purged due to connection errors".

Any help is appreciated

Thanks,

Suchit

Hi Suchit,

Your NPrinting Engine and the QVW file are on different machines so you will need to use a shared network folder and UNC path for the former to access the latter.

Hi,

You must copy/paste your qvw on the QlikNprinting server. And install QlikView on it

Hi Aurelien,

Thanks for your response, I have tried it and that works.

But is there no way to create a connection for a file which is on my local machine?

Should the file always have to be on server having Qlik NPrinting Server installed?

Thanks,

Suchit

Perhaps you can try with a shared folder, but I have not tried yet

Hi Suchit,

You can create a connection using UNC paths.

Ex:\\ServerName (can be IP addresse)\Drive\Path_to_application\QV_application.qvw

It worked for me, for more info link to this document

Hi Robert,

I think that is what Aurelien meant when he suggested to create a shared network drive, that we have to use UNC path for connecting to the file.

I wanted to know how to connect to a qvw file which is on my local machine.

Thanks,

Suchit

Hi Suchit,

Without involving NPrinting for a moment, if you log onto the machine where NPrinting Engine is running as the account used to run the engine how will you access the QVW file in QlikView Desktop? I mean, what path will you use? Use that in your NPrinting Connection - of course replace any mapped drive with the UNC path.

Hi Daniel,

I am sorry I did not get your answer.

Could you please explain it a bit.

Thanks,

Hi Suchit,

Considering the setup you described in your initial post

Server machine:

* Must have QlikView Desktop (licensed for the account running the NPrinting services) on it.

* The account running the Qlik NPrinting Engine service will access the QVW file on your local machine by using QlikView Desktop

So:

* Log on to your Server machine as the account running the NPrinting Engine service (in my example below: DOMAIN\npadmin)

* Launch QlikView Desktop and open the QVW file that is on your local machine. Can you? What path do you use?

Hello Daniel,

I can log in to our NPrinting Server that has QlikView Desktop on it using our domain\nprintadmin user.

After opening QlikView Desktop on Server, how do you open up a file located on my local machine (My Laptop) like you mentioned in your last point.

So the my original question is can we access a QVW file for NPrinting which is located on my laptop C: Drive.  We are able to run the connection using a shared network folder on the server (UNC Path) but we wish to run it directly off the laptop.  Is that possible or what can we do to get this to work?

Thanks,

Suchit
