[NPrinting] Service Windows Qlik NPrinting Engine Bug

Hello,
We have been experiencing problems with NPrinting for a month, the Engine service bugs from time to time and we don't know why.
It indicates that it is running but it does not work, the reports run in the vacuum. A report that should take 1 min is not finished 1 hour later.
To get everything back to normal we have to restart the Engine service and often kill it because we get an error message that says we can't stop it.
And it even happens more and more that we have to restart the server.
These crashes happen regularly at this time at least once a day.
We are in NPrinting May 2021 SR2.
Thank you in advance for your help.

Hi,

When you have similar issues do not wait a month. As a customer you have access to the support so open a support ticket with everything we need to understand and reproduce the issue and we will help you directly.

We have too few information to understand what is happening. For example, we don't have the log files nor the version of Qlik Sense you are connecting with. Be sure you are using a supported configuration. Check also the workload of both Qlik NPrinting and Qlik Sense servers. Do a Run Verification on the connection and be sure all ticks are green. Run a preview on the Designer of the reports generating issues and be sure they are correct.

Best Regards,

Ruggero

Also

  • reload your NPrinting Qlik Sense connection regularly to ensure there is no issue there.
  • check your system is sufficiently resourced. Low system resources on the QS and NP server can cause report slow down due to
    • High volume NP report output
    • High volume QS server QMC tasks and day to day Qlik Sense users on the hub
    • Large Apps consuming resources on the QS server when loaded to memory
    • NP server that has other unrelated 3rd party software installed
    • NPrinting system antivirus exceptions not configured
    • Unsupported items in the QS QVFs
    • Ensure your QS and NP servers are rebooted regularly (2 times per month or at least one per month)
  • Also recommend upgrading to NP May 2022 SR 4 as soon as able to leverage performance enhancements. Upgrading will also solve any potential issues related to valid rabbit log error entries "error trying to open". These errors can be caused by reboots so don't mistake those for a problem.

Hi @Frank_S ,

Thanks for your answer.

What did you mean by a high number of reports?
We are on Qlikview reports and the reports are separate documents with no users on them and they are on a dedicated server.
In terms of Engine and Central server resources, we are around we are not exceeding 50% of the CPU and we are at the 30% RAM usage level.
At the level of the antivirus, it was not set up we have just set it up.
The error occurs randomly, it is not always on the same report.
The services of Qlikview and NPrinting are restarted every week.
For Qlikview what objects are not supported?

Thanks in advance.

Hi,

For performances refer to https://help.qlik.com/en-US/nprinting/May2022/Content/NPrinting/DeployingQVNprinting/Performance.htm

Unsupported objects are listed in https://help.qlik.com/en-US/nprinting/May2022/Content/NPrinting/ReportsDevelopment/Qlik-objects-supp...

If it happens randomly and not always on the same report I think it is related with something temporary. Maybe the workload ? Check the log files, mainly the Engine logs and see if there are error messages.

Best Regards,

Ruggero

@Diane

Unsupported items is a common root cause for NPrinting performance and consistency.

Here is a video describing how to manage unsupported items.

--Unsupported QlikView Document item... - Qlik Community - 1714896

Typically, if you do have unsupported items mentioned in the article/video and the help page shared by Ruggero, then making a copy of the QVW and using the copy for reporting purposes it the path to normalized NPrinting reporting activity.

Further it might be a good idea to have a professional services review of the affected system if after addressing the previous points made that the issue persists. Qlik's PS team can thoroughly evaluate your environment, if needed, from report development to system resource deployment.
