NPrinting "Add Title" property not respecting object filter

Hi @Frank_S @Ruggero_Piccoli and others

I am currently building a report which is heavily using object flters as the whole PowerPoint pack is a combination of very different filters and date ranges etc. Since many of the titles on slides also need to follow dynamic naming I had 2 options:

  • for each title on a slide I could create dedicated object (table) which I could then apply object filter to (but that creates issues as you cannot suppress headers in PPT tables)
  • or I hoped I could use "Add Title" option and use object filter to control content of the title as the actual title is a formula. This option is obviously much easier but soon I realized that applied filter does not work on the title for some reason.

Now if you look at the picture below you will see that:

  1. I brought in the table
  2. applied object filter to it
  3. used "Add Title" feature to create title

The title is a formula in QlikView (you can see here that title and actual value of column return the same)

with no filter

with some filters directly in QlikView app

The NPrinting preview renders below result proving that object filter isn't apply to the title expression within the object that title comes from. You can also see that object filter works as the value at the top shows content from table cell (not table title/caption)

Now, I know this is not a filter problem as filter works on actual object content, just does not work on its title. I am yet to test this on most recent version of NPrinting and if need be I will upgrade this client, but I am 99.9% sure it is actually a bug (or a feature which would not make any sense!!!)

Exact Versions I am testing this on:

  • QlikView Version: May 2022 SR1
  • NPrinting Version: May 2022 SR2

Summary:

I think this is a bug and should be rectified as there is no other easy way to create dynamic slide headers in PPT template using NPrinting. I know about many other workarounds where you can use table or image or variable but we want this to be actual text which can be edited and used as a consistent object accros all charts.

@David_Friend

I just put together simple demo app presenting the issue. Create connetion to the app (it is QlikView app), import report and run preview to see that object filter filters object chart but not its title.

After running preview I would expect title to show 'A' (not A,B,C) as filter is for A only on that object.

cheers
