Rename Qlik Nprinting Engine Server

Hello,
We have 2 Nprinting servers : Nprinting Server and NPrinting Engine.
We want to rename the NPrinting Engine server.Have you already done it?
Is it possible? If yes, what are the modifications I have to make following this modification: config file, ...
What are the risks?
Thanks in advance.

Diane

If you are simply renaming the NPrinting Engine server computer, then you need not perform the NPrinting server reinstall as suggested.

Typically the NPrinting Engine and Server are installed on the same computer in many customer environment. This is NOT a requirement however.

If you have installed the NP engine on a different dedicated computer, then you simple need to reinstall the NPrinting Engine software and use the name of the existing NPrinting server when requested to do so during the NP Engine installation process.

The original response covers the renaming of the NPrinting server scenario if ever needed.

Kind regards.

Hi,

If the Qlik NPrinting Engine is installed on a different computer than the Qlik NPrinting Server you can simply uninstall the Engine, rename the computer, install the Engine again and connect it again in the Server Web Console.

Uninstalling and reinstalling the Engine warranty you that the installation procedure will do everything needed to keep a correct configuration.

Best Regards,

Ruggero

Hello @Diane

My personal preference for managing this change is as follows:

  • Make a backup of the NPrinting Server database (How to BackUp and Restore Qlik NPrinting Repositor... - Qlik Community - 1715863)
  • Uninstall the NPrinting server and the NPrinting Engine (ensure to have the installation files for the version of NPrinting that you are uninstalling immediately at your disposal for re-installation)
  • Change the server computer name(s) as needed
  • Install NPrinting Server
  • Restore the NPrinting server database and apply the product license to it.
  • Install NPrinting Engine (when installing, insert the new name of the NPrinting server when prompted - "type the name of the NPrinting Scheduler node/computer",

Test On a NPrinting Test Server 'before' performing these steps in production: Ensure you test the NP database by restoring it to a test server by performing the steps above to ensure their are no unexpected issues with the database. It is also critical to ensure that the version of the NPrinting database is documented. You need to ensure that you restore to the identical NP version (and Service Release if applicable) in which the NP database is backed up from. This is mentioned in the article above.

Let me know if you have any questions.

Kind regards...

Hello,
Thank you for your answer.
However, I don't understand why we have to uninstall Qlik Nprinting Server AND Qlik Nprinting Engine.
Can we uninstall only the Qlik Nprinting Engine?

Also, another solution was to install Qlik Engine on another server with the right name.
Remove the link with the old engine and connect the new engine to the server.
Is this possible? And if so, are there any issues?
Thanks in advance.
