Hi,
Recently we tried to use QLIK replicate with an oracle container database. We could not get it to work. We moved on and used it on a non-container database instead. The higher environments for the application do not use a container database.
In the future, Oracle will only allow databases to be container databases. So, I have two questions.
1) Does QLIK replicate work with container databases and we just weren't able to configure it correctly?
2) If QLIK replicate does not work with container databases, are there plans in the future to make the application work with container databases?
The error message generated about a month or two months ago. I could go dig it up but our project has moved on from this point. I posed the question as our company is looking to expand our Qlik presence and whether it is worth investigating further and keep QLIK in the future.
As far as sucking at my job, since I was giving this responsibility with no training and two year old documentation with dig through it and figure it out yourself, I would expect that I do.
If this is the type of community that QLIK is, then I understand it is a waste of time to ask for help from this forum from now on.
Oracle containter databases work just fine with Replicate for many versions already. Just to be sure, what Replicate / Oracle versions did you try? What happened when you tried? Did it pass the 'test' on the source endpoint definition? I do most my testing just on my laptop with a recent (2023/05) Replicate and currently " Oracle Database 21c Express Edition Release 21.0.0.0.0 - Production Version 21.3.0.0.0" select NAME from V_$CONAINTER shows CDB$ROOT, PDB$SEED , XEPDB1.
The connection string I use is: //localhost:1521/XEPDB1
This connects to the plug-in for work, but please do realize that you need access to the REDO/ARCH logs in the container as those are shared.
RTFM!
- Connecting to a CDB is not supported.
- l Virtual Private Database (VPD) is not supported.
Hein.
The test connection works in Enterprise Manager. When we tried to run replication, it failed.
The version of the server is 2021.5.0.764.
It sounds like we need to either upgrade or figure out the configuration settings to make it work.
", it failed." - Is that the best you can do? That's so lame.
>>> The version of the server is 2021.5.0.764.
That's plenty recent for this to work, but not the most recent.

I urge you to re-read my first reply. Was that not very timely, courteous, and a rather complete answer given the constrained of the minimal information in the original question?
From my perspective, I amdisappointed you did not properly read the answer and act on it, after all the effort I put into just trying to be helpful to a fellow forum user. We have one thing in common now, I must understand that it a waste of time to try to help.

So you failed to properly follow through at the time, making your company and Qlik look bad. Too bad.
>>> I could go dig it up
Yes you should have. That is if you think this error is more important then the assurance and hands on experience from a forum member that it indeed can and should work. How can anyone help with a question like 'it doesn't work' - Was the server plugged in?
>>> I was giving this responsibility with no training .
Just say no. Companies which can consider multi-thousand dollar purchases but do not give you the time or resources to do a proper job are not worth your time. The product comes with professional services/training, you management seems to have failed to pass that down.
>>> two year old documentation with dig through.
Up to date documentation comes with the product install.
Good luck my friend.
Hein
Nah, it's cool.
I should have done the research for the error first before replying instead of putting stuff in piecemeal. I had intended to research the error this afternoon but I had other priorities come up and was working on those but wanted to put something up so I could get something started and remind myself that I need to look at this.
But honestly, I should have let it lie and keep the question in mind when we are moving to upgrading the databases to 23c when container databases are required. I had wanted to get a head start on the issue and be ahead of a problem in this case.
Anyway, thank you for your time.
Hello @SungChungAmeren ,
Oracle introduced CDB from Oracle 12C (12.2). Qlik Replicate supports Oracle multitenant environment from that time, by specifying a specific PDB. So far Qlik Replicate supports PDB in Oracle versions 12c/18c/19c/21c. Oracle 23c has not shown up in support matrix yet, it will be officially supported in the future version(s).
BTW, Starting in Oracle Database 21c, a multitenant container database is the only supported architecture. In previous releases, Oracle supported non-container databases (non-CDBs) and CDBs. So from Oracle 21C, Qlik Replicate LogMiner is not an access option anymore.
The version of the server is 2021.5.0.764
Qlik Replicate 2021.5 (half year ago) & 2021.11 (effective today) are out of support, no patch fix or feature enhancement will be added to it. please upgrade to supported versions, Replicate 2023.5 is highly recommended. The complete supported versions can be found in Qlik Replicate Product Lifecycle.
Feel free to let us know if you need any additional assistance.
Good luck,
John.
I appreciate the information and will let the application team here know. I will let them handle it from here on out.
