QV 12 compatibility

I'm investigating an upgrade from QV 11.2 to QV 12, but my organization has disparate groups administrating different server versions.  Not everyone will be upgrading simultaneously.

I'd like to understand if a document reloaded in version 12, will be able to be opened in version 11.  Obviously, any new functionality would be unavailable, but otherwise should the document open and function as designed?

Alternatively, will documents reloaded using v11 be able to work as designed in v12?

Are there any know issues with the IE plug-in from one version accessing the other?

Any assistance would be appreciated.

Regards,

B

I can't find a reference right now, but I think I read somewhere that the file format has not changed so QV 11 and 12 should be able to open documents created with either version.

Hi Gysbert,

Sorry to reply on the old thread, we are about to upgrade current QV Server 11.20 SR12 version to 12.10 SR9 version.

Question was raised that after upgrading the Server version can we use current desktop version 11.20 SR12? is it compatible?

Please advise on the backward compatibility of different versions.

Thanks,

Nihal

Nihal,

We updated to v12.1 and were able to use the 11.2 desktop, but there were some visible differences.

I'm not sure what your architecture and licensing looks like, or why you need to have different versions.  I would need more information to offer you any recommendations.

Your best bet is to always keep your server, desktop, and IE Plug-in versions in sync.  It eliminates issues and simplifies submitting support tickets, since they will recommend this as a first step.

Hi Brent,

would you say that those visible differences include real deal-breakers or would you classify them as just cosmetic "improvements" (like those caused by the fact that 12.xx now offers a 100% feature complete AJAX client)

Thanks,

Peter

hello

when i migrated from 11 to 12, I noticed that :

it's better to use the appropriate desktop client (v11 on v11 server, v12 on v12 server)

I noticed some strnge behaviour with some objects (not always the same)

keep in mind there are some syntax improvements in v12 (i.e applymap), so it's better to retest you code

and if you use IE plugin, download the v12 release, because new objects won't appear with v11 and there will be some troubles (totals not appearing for example)

Hi Peter,

Mostly cosmetic, but as Oliver mentioned, there are some differences.  The biggest issue we encountered was applications with on open macros would hang the browser when accessing from the server using the IE Plugin.

We also saw charts with text on the axis not appearing or showing in reversed order.

It depends on your setup and which version of the server, desktop, and IE Plugin you have installed.

Thank you for your valuable information..

We have addressed the compatibility issues by using the different versions and suggested customer to keep server, desktop, and IE Plug-in versions in sync.
