QlikView server performance (QV10 SR3)

We have recently upgraded to QV10 SR3, and are experiencing two major performance issues:

1) Users are reporting very sluggish performance. 50-10% increase in the time it takes to load QV applications.

2) 10% of nightly reload jobs are failing, mostly due to timeout issues. We have 8 CPUs and have QEMC configured to process up to 8 reloads at a time. No significant data changes have been made to any of our 250+ QlikView applications, so we are not sure what causes the nightly reloads to take longer. We have doing performance monitoring for the past week on our network, and the performance degradation doesn't seem to be network related.

Attached, is our QV10SystemMonitor QVW and latest log files. The performance issues started on 11/19/11.

Any advice on where the root cause may be would be highly appreciated.

Hi

What version did you upgrade from? Or was it just a SR upgrade?

Klaus,

We have just recently upgraded from QV10 SR3 to SR4 and are now experiencing the second issue you described where the reloads are taking longer.  Only noticed the longer reloads on a few of our jobs.  Unfortunately, there are other jobs that are dependent on the completion of these tasks.

For instance, we have one job that went from 15 minutes to 60-75 minutes and a couple of others that went from only a few seconds to 20-25 minutes.

We did not experience these issues in SR3, but at the same time need some of the fixes that were addressed in SR4.

Wondering if you, or anyone else has had this issue and have found a fix for it?

Thanks,

Dan

Hi Dan,

Last week we upgrade from QV10 SR3 to SR4, we are experiencing the same issue with the reload. It take longer time than it SR3.

Application which take 30min to reload with SR3, same app take more than 1Hr to reload.

Did you find any solutions/fix to this?

Thanks & Regards,

Upendra

Would suggest to raise a support request as previous questions on the same issue have not received helping answers.

Also, before you go to support, I would like to ask that this delay you are facing in server reloads or desktop reloads.

If you are facing this in desktop reloads then I would suggest to install SR 3 again in parallel with SR 4 (you can install both) and try to run the same application reload again in SR3 and SR4 at the same time in parallel (if your server can handle), or one by one.

So, that way you can be assured that it is because of this upgrade only.

Fortunately for us, we now have 4 QlikView servers in our environment and they all have a publisher license.  I turned OFF the parallel reload on one of our servers and kept it ON for the other three.  For these tasks that have been taking longer, we moved them to the server where parallel reload is OFF.  This has dramatically reduced the time to run these specific tasks.

Thanks,

Dan

Hi Dan,

With parrallelized reloads you are referring to Distribution service setting for no of simultaneous qlikview engine for distribution

or

You are referring to easter egg setting of ParallelizeQVDLoads ?

Please explain!

I am referring to the multi-threading that is done on the server.  I added a line to the Settings.ini file with the assistance of QlikTech support..

EnableParallelReload=0

This file can be found here (Windows Server 2008)...

C:\Windows\System32\config\systemprofile\AppData\Roaming\QlikTech\QlikViewBatch\Settings.ini

For individual cases, it may be best to contact support.
