Slow save time of Qlikview document

Hi everyone,

I have problem with a qvw file (522 mb) that takes about 10 min to save. When loading the document with no data and saving, it takes only two minutes. So there should be nothing in the structure of the document that triggers this behaviour.

I dont reckon 500 mb should be an out of the ordinary large file, is there something I could try to improve the saving time?

Kind regards,

Mattias

Two minutes to save a document with no data? That sounds rather slow. You should investigate your storage system. Where do you save it? Local harddisk or over a network on a server share? Is there any antivirus software involved?

Is it on a network drive? Maybe this is something that you should consider.

Maybe any synchronisation tools you might have installed in your machine that start running as soon as you initiate the save process?

Thanks

Another point to the above mentioned network storage could be the compression-settings from these app. A high compression could take some time. With a normal storage you should disable compression but by a slow network storage a high compression could be an real advantage.

Hi mattiasL

Did you try on your local machine and server machine? What are the results?

HI,

Is your application placed on shared drive?

What storage system you have SAN or NAS?

Can you try by placing those applications locally on server and let us know the performance impact.

We had a qvw-document, from about 2 Gb, which took us approx. 2 hours to save. Finally, we found the reason: there was just not enough space on the harddisk. The system was probably busy swapping. Our solution: Cleaning up a few Gb solved our  issue.

Another thing to check is to make sure that anti-virus software is not scanning that directory or at least .QVW extensions.

How long does it take to save it locally?

Hello Dan,

Sorry for late response.

But saving the document took about ten minutes before, but after cleansing a bit amongst the bookmarks it went down drastically.
