Gauge chart to show % capacity filled

Hi

I want to show the % capacity filled of an aisle in our warehouse.

I have a list of all the locations in that aisle which I have merged with a list of stock that I have in locations in that aisle. Some bays are full and some are empty so I want to show that on a gauge as percentage full.

As each bay holds 2 pallets and there are 7 bays in the aisle and 2 levels that gives a total of 28 pallet spaces.

I have a list box which shows all the aisle locations and a straight table with all the pallet information. What I cannot fathom out is how to do the calculation to show on the gauge the percentage of the aisle used.

I have attached the qvw.

Any help and guidance in the right direction appreciated.

Steve

What is the relationship between qtyleft and the 28 pallet spaces per aisle?  How does pallets translate into quantity?  Does each pallet hold a certain quantity?

As Christian says, its not clear what constitutes a full bay in your warehouse. I have assumed that full  is a quantity of 440 (although this not quite right) as you see, and it may need to be a calculation.

You could create this bar chart showing each bay and how full/empty it is. This may be better than several Gauges. However, if you do want a Gauge, it might give some help in showing how to design it.

Hi

There isn't really a relationship between the qtyleft and the 28 pallet spaces in the aisle.

Qty left is the number of cases left on the pallet. This will be more relevant to the report when we start complicating it with part pallets.

Yes each pallet holds a certain quantity and this can be determined from another table that I have not incorporated yet.

At the moment I want to keep this simple before I start complicating matters with part pallets.

If there is a pallet against the location then, for the time being, I want to count it as a full pallet regardless of the quantity left.

Hi Richard

As I have just explained to Christian, at the moment I am trying to keep it simple. If a pallet exists in the location regardless of the quantity I want to count it as a full pallet.

From the gauge I want to show the percentage of the aisle that is full rather than the availability of each bay. Depending on the product located there, there could be as many as 1500 cases on a pallet if the cases are small, so taking into account pallet quantities is a couple of steps further than I need to go at the moment.

Thanks Steve

Hi Steve

As long as you can identify the full capacity of each aisle/location and how much is used up, then my bar chart solution will work. But you haven't really explained whether this design is what you need, or whether your issue is how to do the calculations?

Hi Steve

if you want percentages, then you can use the same styleing:

...or am I being too simplistic ?

Hi Richard

My problem is how to do the calculation to get what I want to know in a gauge. The bar chart would be nice as a drill down to see more about where the space is in the aisle but initially all I am after is an overview of the aisle and the percentage of the aisle used. So a gauge would be ideal with the needle showing percentage used of the aisle. The bays in the aisle are either full or empty regardless of whether the pallet is actually a full pallet or not. I know from a manual count that I have 20 pallets in an aisle that holds 28 pallets. I want to show that as a percentage in the gauge and calculating this has me stumped.

Thanks Steve

Hi Richard

Not too simplistic at all.

My Ops Director wants an overview of the warehouse and its percentage capacity so in its most simplistic form the gauge showing percentage used would suffice.

I have simplified what I am trying to achieve by just focusing on one aisle. Once I am happy with that then I will broaden the scope.

Thanks Steve

Do you mean something like this ?

Warehouse.JPG

The dimension is location, and the expression is the calculation shown (sorry if I have given space left, instead of space used). The presentation will control the look of your gauge. I have shown 50% as the 'danger zone' but you may have Segment 2 starting at 90% (say) or not showing at all.

The gauge will show the availability for the location selected in your selection box.

Good luck.
