I'm having trouble mapping my hierarchy correctly. I can only get it so if you select the parent it'll show the children summed up, but if I select the child itself it doesn't work.
That's because the children have two parents. For humans that's perfectly acceptable, but in a qlikview hierarchy a child should have only one parent.
That is not the cause of my issue. Even if I remove duplicate children I can select the parents, but when I select the children it doesn't work. My question is how to connect the hierarchy table to the already existing account table.

If you only have 2 levels, you may wanna try doing a simple load joining as usual, o letting QV do the join.
I've attached a simplified version of my problem. The main issue being I'm introducing a new acct field that isn't on the data table.
