Ask the interviewer how he got his dates wrong. Ask him why JavaScript or VBScript was still needed when there was the script that QlikView uses.
QlikView (well... QuikView): 1993
JavaScript: 1995
VBScript: 1996

What "new" scripting language? It has been the same one for, what, 20+ years?

I think the answer is quite simple - no existing script language could cover the needs of qlikview and therefore they developed their own (whereby they didn't to reinvent the wheel and they adopt many things from other languages).
