I'm using Ver 9.0 Personal Edition. I have created a qvw file using the Personal Edition. However, when opening the qvw file with the Personal Edition, I am prompted that a license key file is missing and the qvw file cannot be opened and I have to use the recovery process to open it (there appears to be some limit on how many times this can be done). (Sorry the prompt is no longer displayed so I don't have the exact message). I'm confused because I created the qvw file within the my Personal Edition and I am opening it within my Personal Edition. I have already performed the recovery a few times within the last few days and only have 2 occurences remaining. Any ideas on why this is occuring? I have spent considerable time creating multiple pages and charts and don't want to have to recreate this.
Thanks for any help you can offer.
In SR1, we have also fixed an issue related to the more unusual error message "This file contains inconsistancies and cannot be opened by Personal Edition".
Make sure to download QlikView 9 SR1 when it is released...
Thanks for the update, I wish it will resolve the problem of opening my own qv files I created with my personal edition.
I have downloaded and installed SR1. When I tried to open the same qvw file, I recieved the error message "Your installation of Qlikview has exceeded the maximum number of document recoveries allowed for a Personal Edition license. To continue using Qlikview you will need to purchase a full Qlikview license....".
Has this issue been fixed in SR1? Is there a way to reset this counter?
Background - From my earlier posts, I have created and updated the same qvw file within Personal edition on my same laptop. To continue to use the file over last few months, I've had to do document recoveries to continue to use. Based on a recent post, I downloaded SR1 thinking it would resolve the problem.
Hi John,
I installed the QlikView Personal Edition v9 on Friday last week and started to create new files and working through the excellent tutorial. I did all this in the office where my laptop is connetcted via a docking station to the company's network.
Then I wanted to continue the tutorial on Saturday morning at home without being connected to the company's netwwork and without being docked to the docking station but - very important - with the same laptop. I couldn't open the files created the day before in the office because QlikView let me know that the files I wanted to open where created by another user. I recovered the files and continued my work.
I found on Sunday this thread and installed the SP1 for QlikView 9 and created a new file (still working at home without being docked to the docking station). Today, back in the office, I plugged the laptop into the docking station, fired up QlikView 9 SP1 and wanted to open the new file I have created yesterday. But what a surprise - QlikView is stating again that the file has been created by another user and that I have to recovery it. So I have recovered the file again. It's working nice but I only have 3 options for recovery left.
I don't think this is a situation we expect because I am working all the time with the same laptop and I am - as far as I know - the same human being whether I am in the office or whether I am at home .
So my question: Does QlikView v9 SP1 still consider the same laptop as different machines when it is being used either via a docking station or without docking station? Or is there any setting that is being constantly changed on my machine I don't know about? Could there be two different user profiles for the docking station and for the log-in without docking station? The user name and password are the same for both.
Some information:
I appreciate any help and ideas very much. Thanks!
Kind regards,
Dominik
What we've done in SR1 is to eliminate the issue with the Personal Edition check getting confused when you switch between network adapters (or more importantly when your network adapters become disabled). From this point forward your installation will not worry about the network adapter when confirming that this is the same machine that the document was created upon.
Presuming you use the same domain/user when you login to the machine where ever you are and whatever your connected status, you should be fine.
Are you able to open a document created since the SR1 install without being prompted for a recovery request? When in the office? When at home?
Hi John,
Many thanks for your reply.
Unfortunately, the show is over with the QlikView Personal Edition on my laptop. I can create new QlikView files but when I close them and try to re-open them again then I get a error message collection in this order:
This are the steps since yesterday (same user, same login, same laptop):
The four recovery option is not per file but per recovery on any file. I consider four recoery options in this case as too low.
There is no chance to work with the QlikView Personal Edition anymore. That's very sad because it is a very interesting application and I can't afford to buy a licence. If you can find any fix / patch workaround I will appreciate this very much.
Kind regards,
Dominik
I just downloaded the 9.0 SR1 Personal Edition version to evaluate. I'm having this same problem. Is there not a solution yet?
Thanks for any help -
Dave
We've been working with those on this thread to reclaim and reset their documents. As a 'pure' SR1 user I'd be interested to know what you are seeing. Have you downloaded and used any files from QlikCommunity? What error messages are you seeing (the error texts were updated for SR1 so should give more indication what is happening).
Thanks
john Trigg
John,
I"m seeing exactly the same errors as the previous post ( holdom replied on 09-29-2009 9:18) see errors below. I have not downloaded nor used any file from QlikCommunity.
Hello all,
I must unfortunatly say that I am another user or SR1 version and still have same problems when switching networks.
Every time same user, same laptop, on different networks.
So it is clear that this bug was not rectified.
Also I would like to correct the statement of 4 recoveries per file, in fact it is 4 recoveries per Personal edition installation (I am down to one).
