Could anyone give me pros and cons of connecting Qlikview directly to a database versus having spreadsheets as source data. Also look for any data security aspects you can consider while this exercise.
- Qlikview directly to a database will be safer via odbc it is secular
- Loading data from excel sheet is not a best practice if your data source is database then it is always better to create link server and fetch data from sql server.
Hope this are some guide lines.

Hi
In general you will get better performance reading from a database than from Excel or flat files, especially for large data sets.
However, there are two reasons why you might not want to read the data directly from a database. Firstly, the file export from the database can be controlled by the database administrators - for example to ensure the data is up to date and the export does not interfere with any batch processes or impact the database performance.
Secondly, exporting to a flat file is one way of abstracting the data source - it creates a data contract between the Qlikview environment and the operational database. Changes to the underlying database will not affect the Qlikview environment as long as the contract is maintained.
YMMV
