QlikView Admins vs Local Admins

Hi All,

I have few queries to be clarified from the Server sections. Help will be highly appreciated.

  • How is the Qlikview Adminstrators group different than Local Adminstrators?
  • Does it grant some level of privilege within the Qlikview application itself?  On the   server?
  • Should we characterize this group as  server support type role or application role?
  • Could anyone say what specifically it grants?

Regards!!!!

Hi,

The QlikView Administrators group grants permissions to its members to access the QlikView Management Console, usually located in the server in the URL http://localhost:4780/qmc It does not grant any permissions on the application. Actually, in many cases, QlikView Administrators are IT people, not developers. They don't need a license, and therefore cannot open actual QVW files.

The local Administrators group grants its users with permissions to interact with administrative tasks in the operating system such as write folder, install programs, modify registry keys... The user running the QlikView services must be member of the local Administrators group, as it is running a set of services that need to make connections, open ports, and so on.

Hope that makes sense.
