Qlikview Desktop Licensing issue, Named CAL converts in to personal edition

Dear Friends,

I have been facing this strange problem recently.

I have named cals on the server which I take lease to my local desktop.  Everytime I connect to server I get my Qlikview showing using license lease from server.  your current lease will expire in 30 days.  But when I open the qlikview next time It will bounce back to personal edition. I am working on some 10 documents both old and new. sometimes even qlikview will show up a message telling that you are trying to open a document which was developed in personal edition of qlikview.  Do you want to open it.  (I feed autosave feature had tryed to save my documents in personal edition earlier???) I have even uninstalled and reinstalled the Qlikview but that also does not help.

Whenever I use qlikview and if it shows personal edition.  the old documents created will lose its data and it will automatically save.  I have to again connect to server renew the lease and reload the data.

I am using QV 10.00.8935.7 SR2.

With Every Good Wish.

Hi,

Once i had the same problem.

I think the problem occures when you already assigned a name cal license for one machine and you try to get license for same user from other machine.

Hi Koushik,

I am doing that sometimes as I have an Ipad I use the same user name for Ipad test/use the document.  But that is purely web based access and not that the lease is taken.

I am not using lease on any other machine apart from my laptop.

Hi,

Check your server setting. I think your server may be configured to identify user with machine ID.

You will find the settings in

    QMC- >License -> CALs -> Identification

Was this problem ever resolved? I'm having a very similar problem except that it doesn't always happen, but it happens for several users. It is version QV 10.3.

Hi Olof, hi dsjain,

could you ever solve your problem? We have the same issue and it just occurs with a few users.

We do not have any clue what might happen there.

Strange thing is that we are using a little cmd-file which checks the license expiry and starts QV for a license renewal if necessary. Therefore we check the license expiry date from the settings.ini

Although the cmd-file states a valid license QV lost its license and no documents can be opened.

Any ideas?

Thanks and best regards,

Max

We think our problem was due to having both QV 9 and QV 10 installed on the same machine.

First thing, when a named CAL has been assigned to you, you can lease license from that particular server/cluster.

But if you want to access the document in a different server or a different cluster, you need a Named CAL assigned to you in that server too.

It is the Qlikview policy that the leasing of license using a Named CAL is applied to each server/each cluster separately.

Also, to mention that, once you lease the license today, you can work offline with that leased license upto 28 days.

Hi,

Like someone mentioned, this may happen because you leasing the same CAL to different devices. I don't think using the same CAL for an iPad and a PC should affect, because iPad is not really leasing the license, but just authenticating to the access point.

I've also seen this issue, but it happens like randomly, sometimes you open QlikView Desktop and it says you're leasing a license, but next time you open QlikView Desktop it says you're running personal edition. This behaviour happened to me using QV 10.

Also it is important mention is that the option Identify user by Machine name is no longer working. I contacted QlikTech support some months ago and asked about that option. They told me that option is no longer working even when is still present in management console. They told me that you needed that your LEF was enabled for using this option, however, it seems Qliktech no longer enables this option,
