Hello to qlik community users.
I would like to have some suggestion on which configurations best fits my needs.
My case is: not more than 3 managers able to read qlikview applications developed by a unique(or max 2)developer.
Do i need, in this situation, the qlikview server edition or the client one is enough?
Which are the main differences between these 2 products?
Which and how many licenses do i need for my situation and how much dos they cost?
Can you explain me clearly what i can do and what i can not do with "user named licenses" and when i really would need the qlik server product?
Last question:
If i choose the qlikserver edition, which licenses do i need?
Do I need a number of "user named licenses" in addition to the "Small Business Edition Server" licence?
Thanks a lot.
Regards,
Christian.
Yes, you can share the app by having 5 users access the app from the same shared folder, but to be able to reload the data all users must have Change file permissions to the app so all users can modify the app and can change what is seen by other users.
In a server environment, the users do not have the ability to modify the app and affect what other users see.
Christian,
This may give you an idea how licensing works. See attachment.
Hi Giuseppe, thanks a lot for your reply.
My ideas are now a bit more clear about the different types of licenses, but i have still a lot of doubts about qlikview server solution.
Do i have to buy a license in order to download and use the qlikview server (unlike the qlik desktop solution that i can instead download for free with the personal edition license)?
If i decide to buy the QLIK server license(i.e. Small Business Edition), do i should still have to buy licenses in order to let the local qlikview desktop connect and use qlik applications stored in server?
Sorry if my ideas ar so confused, but i think is important clarify how much could really cost using qlik for small scenario and, only after having considered that costs acceptable, start to understand qlikview technical aspects.
Thanks and Regards,
Christian
You might want to consider contacting Qlik sales to get some answers to your questions?
QlikView Personal Edition will not allow you to share one application between multiple users. To share apps between users, each user will need a desktop licence. A desktop licence will allow each user to develop and access any QlikView app either locally stored or accessed from a shared network drive.
QlikView server can centralise the application and licences. You would need a server licence ( and server hardware) plus named user cals or document cals for your users.
Named users can develop and view multiple apps. A single document CAL allows one user to access one qlikview app.
The server also schedules the data reloads and provides a webpage for viewing the reports without requiring any applications installed on the client pc.
This is just a brief summary of the options available.
Hi,
In your situation qlikview Small Business Edition (SBE) looks suitable.Small Business Edition is designed to be used in smaller deployments. It has the following limitations:
For use only with Named and Document CALs
Limited to 25 Named User CALs
Limited to 100 Document CALs
No support for additional servers
Only supports Windows Active Directory to handle security and access control.
Named CAL User can access any number of documents and Document CAL user can access only one document
Christian,
IT would be really hard to tell you whats best in you scenario, which I agree with Lior's comment to reach a Qlik Account manager for better review. Qlik Personal edition, is what the word describes "personal" so you won't be able to shared it without a license. However, again licencing can go different ways, so contacting a Qlik Account Manager they can assist you with that.

Thanks to all for the precious info.
As Colin said,
if i opt for the SBE config i would pay the server license plus at least 5 Named User CALs.
Whereas if i opt for just 5 Named User CALs without Server, i could still share applications among 5 different users without taking advantage of a centralized server and of a centralized license management, is it right?
I would try to contact Qlik Sales person in order to have an idea about today's prices.

Christian
