Unable to open .qvw file

Hello,

I am new to QV even have previous BI experience.

Trying to open somebody's .qvw on my newly installed QV desktop, but unable to do that with attached message.

What does it mean, and how to get trough that?

Leon,

You must have a Qlikview License to open a QVW made by another developer.

If you have a Qlik Server you can lease a license from the server to open all the .qvvw docs.

Got it, thank you guys - just keep in mind that this tool is new to me - we just recently purchased the product.

The following question would be: since I don't have a server for server installation yet, is it possible to have QV server and QV Desktop installed on the same machine (my local computer, I think it should satisfy server requirements) and then lease the license. One way or another I should work with file provided.

I've been able to install the server on local machine and now need to figure out how to lease the license to Desktop.

Hi Leon,

You are using Personal Edition. Personal Edition has limitation to view 4 documents. Once it exceeds you will get this message. If you want to open QVW which is created by others you must be having Qlikview Named License.

Leon,

You can do one thing, till you get license you can access the file by saving in to your local desktop. Recover the file and "save as" the file. Any how you have four attempts recovery.

Thank you for advise Anil, but it should be Named License (according to the purchase agreement) - will confirm this, but now I guess the goal is closer since I already have a server.

Dear Leon,

You are using QlikView Personal Edition, therefore you are not able to open QlikView document which is created by another user or at another pc. You need license.

Your using the Qlikview Personal edition so you can open only the document developed by you . Since its a personal edition it allows you to open 4 documents developed by other if you try to open morethan this count you personal edition is tied to you system id ...if it exceeds the 4 count you it will not allow you to open the documents developed by you .
