What is Dimensions in qlikview 11? please say it and meaning also

A dimension is a category against which facts [aka metrics] can be aggregated against, e.g.

• Number of sales per month, where month is the dimension

Or more generally speaking one commonly in BI displays charts of

• Aggregated facts per dimension
