broadcast/ticker tape banner

Hi,

has anyone created a scrolling ticker/tape banner in a Qlikview app before?

I'm thinking about putting one in place with which to notify users of changes or tips etc.

Any ideas?

thanks,

Matt

Hi, Matt.

By chance I was discussing the same thing with a colleague.

The conclusion was that this would be rather hard to do and processing intensive. It would depend on a regular timer event with the text appearing in a variable. On the event, the first value of the string would need to be removed and appended to the end of the string.

Against this is the risk of seriously slowing down response times and potentially unexpected results in Accesspoint.

Yeah I see your point.

We have bad enough performance with our users in Australia (I am in the UK where the server is) at the best of times.

Well I guess an alternative for now would be a stactic box.

we could then just add short notes to a text file, and have qlikview read that in when it reloads.

Would be easy to update the note whenever needed by someone with access to the the network folder.

Next time qlikview reloads, voila!

primitive I know, but I just wanted to be able to engage with the users a bit more, and use it to provide random tips/notes/messages

Matt,

You might be able to find an extension that does this using Java Script or something like that but I wouldn't know how to create it myself.

Would it be or any value to tailor the tickertape messages according to the user ?

Hi Neil,

I think tailoring it per user would be too much of an overhead.

I suppose it could be defaulted to a standard one in the absence of a user

specific one.

I might give it some more thought, and maybe teach myself some Javascript

etc and build my first extension..

In fact, thinking about it,

I wonder if there is a way of extending the management console to show a

list of users/license holders and add messages in there.

The extension object for qlikview would then interrogate this for any app

it was placed in...

Just thinking out loud.
