  • QVD - file that stores data for later retrieving
  • QVW - your application, with objects, graphs, bookmarks, etc - It may consume QVD files, Excel Files, Database and so on

Hi,

QVDs are generally used when you have more than one application that needs the same data. It is then more efficient to read it from your source once rather than several times. But if you only have a single QVW using that QVD, there aren't many reasons to go through the extra step of creating the QVD. Just read the data directly in your application.

QVD-it stands for Qlikview data file it contains only one table of data.it is patend technology of qliktech, and it is stored data into byte stuffed format so qlikview can easily understand so loading very fast than other sources,it is 10 to 100 % more speedly loading into datamodel,it is reuslabe file.

QVW-it stands for Qlikview workbook or Qlikview document it is also reusable it placed 1st line in the script it stores data into binary format,it contains more security than QVD we can easily open the QVD file with some tools but without using QLIKVIEW tool we can't open QVW file.it contains entire datamodel with secssion access also.

Oops! Typo mistake its QVW.

Here you go detailed explanation:

QVD:

At a basic level a QVD is a flat data file with the extension .qvd. It can store a single table of data (is. each row shares the same column list) and is typically created in the load script of a QVW file. The structure of the file is essentially an XML format, with various bits of header information stored at the top of the file and the rest of the data beneath. One of the beauties of a QVD file is that it is compressed on creation using the same algorithms as QlikView uses to store data in memory – so the files can be incredibly small for the amount of data they contain.  Loading from QVD back into memory is blindingly fast as the format of the file mirrors how QlikView addresses data in RAM.

QVW:

The QlikView Document file is stored in the QVW format and is affixed with the QVW extension, and is used by the QlikView software. These QVW files are QlikView design applications that contain reports, charts, key indicators, load script, expressions and settings of a business used in data presentations. These files are defined in Macros and store the relational data model and the contained data after a performed data load. They are saved in binary compressed format and compression results differ depending on data content. The compression process directly affects the amount of disk storage used and required time to read and open QVW files. Compressed documents require less disk space and their small size makes them easier to manage for import and export. The QlikTech International QlikView software can be used in Microsoft Windows based systems to access and run the QVW files. The QlikView software is an application for analyzing business intelligence.
