Bookmark to save selected Chart/Visualization in the Container object and input Variable extension
Currently in SaaS and on Windows platform when you Bookmark the the current chart selected in Container object, it does not save the selected tab location of the Container., So if you save the Bookmark or Monitor on Hub in SaaS, the location is not saved. When you select that Bookmark, the first chart in the container will be displayed, which is an incorrect result.
Same behavior with Input variable extension. Bookmark does not retain the value selected in the Input variable dropdown.
Bookmark is a very high value feature. It will be a huge value to customers for self-service.
Thank you all for your feedback on ways to improve our product. While this is something we understand would be useful, it's not on the short-term roadmap. Please continue to show your support for this idea.
Bookmarks will most likely be expanded with container tabs and variables later on.
I agree, saving Variable values to bookmarks would be very useful. Especially for Alerts and Subscriptions (we are now using SaaS).
We were advised (by Qlik) to use Variables when creating a dynamic dashboard which allows KPI's to be switched between MTD/YTD etc. With those variables passing values to the measures. (Also to control dimensions and measures in charts) .
However, when creating Alerts and Subscriptions, we cannot save the variable values in the bookmark, so we have had to back-out this design and use data islands for this purpose instead.
However, in the performance documentation Qlik states
Data islands avoided
Data islands can be useful, but they usually affect performance. If you are creating islands for selection values, use variables.
In order to fully utilize Alerts and Subscriptions with this dynamic design, we must use data islands and master measures without user chosen variables.
Once variable are saved in the bookmarks, we will no longer require data islands to deliver this dynamic functionality.
Hi all, Bookmarks now allow you to save the current variable state in SaaS. Read more here. So this idea will remain open to focus on saving the current selected container tab.
I wanted to also voice support for the use of bookmarks with containers. Containers are incredibly helpful in being able to limit the number of sheets needed for certain applications. To reiterate what was said by the original poster, bookmarks are a high value object and useful for self-service - especially if we can expand its usage for things like containers.
