Google Analytics Web Connector - Compatibility for GA4
The Google Analytics Web Connector is currently only compatible for the Google Universal Analytics (UA). GA4 is due to replace the current version of Google Analytics (Universal Analytics or UA) in June 2023. More and more customers are now migrating to GA4. The GA4 comes with a new API (Google Analytics Data API). It would be great if the web connector becomes compatible for this new API, or that a new web connector is created.
This has come to my attention as well. A few of my clients are using the Google Webconnectors. (universal analytics). Would be great if the webconnector is compatible with the new API! This way, my clients can keep using the webconnectors and extract fresh data.
@menta No not yet. Only a temporary solution which uses the authorization tokens from the Google OAuth Playground. The tokens retrieved from the playground are valid for only 24 hours. For a permanant solution you need to go through the verification process with your Google Cloud project. Creating a JWT signature in Qlik Sense scripting is not possible, so this way of authentication is also not an option.
An updated Google Analytics connector to support GA4 is on the Qlik connectors roadmap. It is targeted to be available in Qlik Sense SaaS as well as client-managed in Q1/Q2 2023. I am aware this might be close to the sunset of Universal Analytics by Google, and we are looking at the possibility improving the timeline, but we cannot commit to anything more specific at this point.
Quick update on this discussion - development of a new Google Analytics 4 connector is currently in progress and the target is to have a first iteration/release ready in Q2 (but no commitment).
It would be helpful to understand any real use cases from customers looking for Google Analytics 4 support. Please let us know if you could provide any additional information related to your use case(s) using Google Analytics connector.
Google's UA is unsupported (data processing will stop) as of 7/1/2023.
My clients have Qlik dashboards that integrate data from multiple sources -- a one-stop shop for all analysis/reporting needs. Web analytics (GA) is a component of this.
