Moving Apps and Data between Spaces

Should really be aware that the process to move an app from a personal space to a shared space and then remap the data source connections is quite painful.  There is no easy was to "repoint" a datasource in data manager to another location without deleting and then importing data source again.

We should ask if want to move files in data share over into the shared space location at time of an app move.

Hi @pleddy I do agree with you and we did talked about this already. And yes, we do want to improve the content workflow in between of Spaces. Today, for a Data Connection you can already use a relative path in your script, which then allows you to move the App from a Personal Space into a Shared Space without doing any change. This works for Data Connections and for Data Files as long as you are already using the same Data Connections and Data Files in your targeted Space.

In a Shared Space / Managed Space environment you have to use the fixed path today as Data Files and Connections does not exist yet in a Managed Space. This is ongoing work while we speak to enable the ability for a relative path for content in Managed Spaces as well.

So basically there are two use cases:

1. where you want to store the Data and Connections in a central Space (Space type "Shared Space) and then cross reference to this Space from within your Apps. This is already possible today

2. you do want to have the Data and Connections following an App when the App will be moved or published. This will be supported, as soon as we do support Data Files and Connections in Managed Spaces. Targeted for Q3 2020.

And on top of that, we do want to look into the logic as well to support the user better when content will be moved. Like in order to get the App to work in your targeted Space, keep in mind that you need to have Data Source A, B & C or Data File A, B & C. Do you want to take it with you while you publish or not ... something like this. This is not planned for Q3 but discussed as a road map item.
