Connectivity to on premise SAP DB from Talend installed in cloud

Hi,

I have a requirement where I have to connect and fetch data from a SAP DB present on premise from Talend installed on a cloud VM. There is no dedicated line between the cloud VM and SAP server. In such a scenario can the connection between two systems be as simple as opening a port from SAP server? Or any other middleware needs to be installed on premise.

Any pointers will be helpful.

Did you install talend studio on a cloud VM? Is the network OK with you?
