Export projects icon is missing on the toolbar menu in Talend Studio 8.0.1

This is how it looks like in Talend Studio 8.0.1:

vldu_0-1733219736399.png

This was in 7.3.1:

vldu_1-1733219839876.png

Documentation for 8.0.1 is not accurate, it says that I should press the Exports items icon and then I will come to the Export projects dialog box, which is not true.

This is what the documentation for Talend Studio 8.0.1 says about how to export a project:

vldu_0-1733314419735.png

It advices you to "open the Export Talend items dialog box", and then it shows the dialog box of Export projects, which either does not exist in version 8.0 or I don't know how to find it. As shown above, in version 7.3.1 it was an icon for Export projects.

Does anybody know how to open Export Talend projects dialog box in Talend Studio 8.0.1 ?

Hello again!

It seems that you helped me, yes! But a couple of important notices...

First, I did not find "Java Navigation" but "Java browsing", where I then could choose "Projects". BUT!! That's not Talend projects, but Java projects I would say... I did not find my project, but rather "My_project_BEANS" and "My_project_ROUTINES". When I expand them then I only see .jar files and other "Java stuff". So then choosing export to archive will not export your entire Talend project.

BUT! If you look at General you can find Project explorer, choose that. Then you will get listed your complete project, which you can export.

I have not tried it yet, but I think it would be the solution.

Generally, it would probably work also to just go to File > Export... > General > Archive file and then you can see your projects, among other type of artifacts. That's confusing and I was not sure that it was the same as when clicking on the "Export projects" button, which now is missing.

Because, when you click on "Export projects" icon (which now is missing in 8.0.1), notice that you will see this:

vldu_0-1733408465984.png

That was the confirmation what you are exporting. Notice that you will not see the word "projects" when doing as I described above.

Hello,

I still have "Export Projects" icon in Talend Studio 8.0.1. Have you ever migrated your studio from 7.x.x to V 8.0.1 before or is the installation of Talend Studio 8.0.1 complete?

Hello vldu,

I see you are using Talend with version R2024-11

You have various option to export a project, but the best in my opinion is to right click the "Jobs" in the repository and click "Export items"

In the next window you can choose what items from your project you want to export (you can select all) and their dependencies

Thanks for your answer, Sabrina!

I have never before migrated from 7.x.x to 8.0.1, I did not need that.

(I don't need it now either, but I am forced to, because of support expiration for older versions than 8.x from the 1st of December.)

I suppose that the installation of Talend Studio 8.0.1 is complete, I cannot see why it should not be...(?) Studio is running, I have imported my projects, they were successfully migrated under import, I can build my jobs, and I can run them both from the Studio and from the Talend Administration Center 8.0.1.

But, as obviously many other users, I had serious problems/disappointments right after the migration with the layout of the imported jobs in the new version of Talend Studio. The subjobs were enlarged, snap-to-grid distorted, there was no colors (everything was mostly just in different nuances of grey, or black.). And the new design of component icons is just a big, big disappointment: they are without colors, just drawings which very much look like each other. It's very annoying, you cannot differ them from each other easily. I really don't understand why Talend did such a big effort to change the component design to obviously worse, without even giving the users an opportunity to choose the old design.

The size of subjobs and proper original snap-to-grid fortunately came back to the normal after I updated to R2024-11. I also did an effort in setup to get some colors back, but not all (by example, subjobs for Pre-job and Post-job components are not by default orange, as they were before).

Back to the problem with missing Export projects icon:

What you are showing me on your screenshot is not the same product. You are obviously running Talend Cloud Data Fabric. We have an on-prem solution and I run just "ordinary" Talend Studio 8.0.1. So maybe you should try that too in order to check if you have the "Export projects" icon?

Please, notice also that there is an error in the documentation: as I said, it advices you to "open the Export Talend items dialog box", and then it shows the dialog box of Export projects.

By the way, your product, Talend Cloud Data Fabric has obviously the "old fashion", with colors and more meaningful look of the icons... it looks just exactly as Talend Studio 7.3.1... 😉 😉
Why is that???

She has the old colors because she is on version R2024-03 and the "color" update only happened from R2024-06

Thank you for your answer!
I must admit that I after more than 3 years of working with Talend never understood exactly when you should use the one or the other way of exporting items/projects...

I never found a clear systematic documentation/explanation for that.

But in my opinion, the real/best/complete backup of your work is by using "Export projects". So I would like to have it back... 😉 🙂

Is it just about the colors, or you actually think of the complete design/layout change?

Then maybe that's when the Export projects icon disappeared? From R2024-06?

Do you agree that when you click the "Arrow button" (which is supposed to be the Export projects icon) on the Talend Task Bar it also open the "Export Items" window and not the "Export Projects" window ?

quentinvigne_0-1733392499027.png

Because for me it looks like that the "Export Projects" window doesn't exist anymore

And I have to correct myself, the last "old-look" version was R2024-04. So maybe they replaced the Export project with Export items

I would rather say that the "Arrow button" which is there, is export items and it is what it is.
But the Export projects button is completely missing. And I hope and believe it is just the button missing, not the window/dialog box.

In the 7.3.1 there is one extra "arrow button", which is Export projects (see my screen shots on the top of this subject). It is obviously not missing in Talend Cloud Data Fabric R2024-03, shown on Sabrina's screen shot. But maybe it will disappear if she updates to R2024-04...?

I found it ! Go to Window > Show View

Then the Show View window open, you have to open the folder "Java Navigation" and select "Projects"

Click "Open" and a new window will appear on the bottom below the designer. Go on this window and you will see your projects. Right click any project and select "Export" then "General" > "Archive File" and voilà

Hope it helped you, at least it did for me 🙂
