Talend SOAP vs REST service

I would like to know differnece between a SOAP request and REST request.

What is the context/situation where these two types (soap and rest) are preferred?

From Talend perspective, which one is preferred?

I know that talend routes can be used to implement rest apis. Talend routes can be used to implement soap apis as well?
