Garbage after expression "$"

I am going through the documentation located here

https://help.qlik.com/en-US/sense/April2018/Subsystems/Hub/Content/ChartFunctions/SetAnalysis/set-an...

When I try to add the example expression   {$<Year={2009}>}

into the expression editor, it says "Garbage after expression $"

I try changing field name/value to existing and still the same thing. So their tutorial expression doesn't work? Or what am I doing wrong

Can you paste your full expression here?

It was my understanding that that was the whole expression...

Am I just totally being dumb somewhere?

Examples:

Example 1:

{$<Year={2009}>}

This set expression contains an identifier $, and the modifier <Year={2009>}. This example does not include an operator. The set expression is interpreted as: "All records in the current selection that belong to the year 2009".

Hi @andrewzibuda

Just wanted to say it's fine to do mistakes. We all have went through it. The best thing is you are trying and not everyone is capable of that. I would encourage you to read HIC's blogs and spend time on set analysis. It is very important and useful.

Best wishes .
