Pivot table - How to enable a pivot table to allow the user to select a measure cell of a pivot table

I have a use case where I display a roster using a pivot table. Y axis shows people and X axis shows the date and the measure shows the type of shift. I want to allow the user to select a cell (measure) on the chart and qlik should "filter" the chart dimensions of the measure intersect.

Currently I have to select the person row and then the date column for the chart to show the single shift. I want the reverse of this; click the shift (measure) and the chart filters to the person/date.

Thanks in advance.

Hi @AWD

As far as i know, with a pivot table you won't be able to, since it requires a measure, and measures aren't selectable.

If you need it to be a table, your best option will be a "Table" or "Straight table," but I understand you'll have the problem that the columns won't be dynamic.

You could also consider another alternative, like a "grid chart," which is available as an extension in the "Qlik Visualization bundle." In this case, it would allow you to use two dimensions and one measure, and it lets you select the bubble that positions the measure.

Hope this helps.

This was available out of the box for QlikView pivots, but unless something has recently changed, it's not an option in Qlik Sense's native pivots. Some extensions do offer this functionality, but not the native objects.

Thanks Rafael,

Yes, I did try that, and it solves the selection problem, however it creates a second problem as that chart only appears to map/plot numerical data and my data is text.

Thanks for your input!

you can try using dual data format where you use numerical data for chart but to show textual data.

Thanks, yeah tried this as well and also didn't work 😞

From what I can tell, Qlik would "just" 😉 need to add a switch to the Pivot Table chart which allows measure selection. We used a demo Vizlib pivot to test which has this functionality.

I put in the original feature request for this with Vizlib, so I'm obviously in agreement, but Qlik has shown no inclination of adding this as a feature. You can work through the Ideation page, but being honest, your best bet is to either give up on the option or use Vizlib.

Yeah, arm and a leg for Vizlib so probably not going to fly...I'll add my voice to yours in hope. 🙂
