create variable using dimensions

Hi,

I have  dimension category, spendUSD and variable vOppurtunityMax1 ..

Sum({<CATEGORY= {'<=$(vOppurtunityMax1)'}>}spendUSD)

and vOppurtunityMax1 has top category like HR.. i want sum of spend for the category HR via variable..how can i achieve this in qlik sense??
