Understanding Tunneling

Hi all,

We are using the QlikView Web server and QlikView version 10. Please could you let us know how to check whether the tunneling is enabled in our QEMC  and explain what exactly the tunneling will do.

I have checked in the QEMC and option always tunneling in unchecked. My understanding for tunneling is that if the port 4747 is closed and tunneling is enabled it will use port 80.

Thanks,

Sijo Joseph

Hi,

This document will help you with installing Tunneling and testing it.

What is tunneling, I explain it as a VPN (tunnel) to QVS. The plugin talks to the Qlikview server on port 4747. If this port is blocked then the plugin will give an error. So if IT will not open port 4747 and you have customer that want to use the plugin you can setup tunneling.  With tunneling enable the 4747 traffic is repackage an sent as port 80 traffic.

We are using the QlikView Web server not IIS. Is there any way we can check tunneling is enabled in the server. Please let me know if any more infomation is required.

Tunneling in QlikView Webserver is enabled by default.

You can test it by opening the QlikView Developer and opening a file on the server with this URL qvp://server/applicaiton.qvw;http

Many Thanks for the details.

I have given  like  "qvp://<<Our ServerName>>/<<Dashboard in the server name>>;http" from the the IE and it given a blank IE page but did not return any error.

a) Does this mean tunneling is enabled?
b) Is this is the right format right or anything else should be given?
c) what is the need for "http." should I need to enter any value.

Thanks,

Sijo Joseph

Sijo, I haven't tested it in IE, I meant that you should test it in qv.exe, that's why I wrote QlikView Developer.
