Our users use Qlik Sense Data Manager to add data to apps they are developing as attached files. At some point, the user wants a more hands off approach when it comes to updating the data in their app and would like the source files to be placed in a shared network folder. This allows the user to drop updated files into a folder to have the app updated without having to open the app to ad the files to Data Manager.
My question is, how can we easily change the source of the files used in Data Manager from an attached file to a file location without having to recreate the entire data model?
Any solution to this issue? This is an ongoing problem with the Data Manager. It's not possible to replace a source without having to rebuild the whole data model. Even if the new source is identical.
Hey Sten,
The only thing we have been able to do is to unlock the model in Data Load Editor and manually change the file location. Afterwards you can then use Data Manager to synchronize script and continue using Data Manager as your modeling tool. This is a little kludgy and can be quite messy from a maintenance standpoint.
PROS
- Lets you continue using data manager.
- You can edit the data sources from the synchronized script, changing names or adding columns.
- You can add new data sources to your app using Data Manager.
CONS
- It can be very messy if you start editing data sources from the synchronized script using Data Manager.
- You have to change the data source location from Data Load Editor for the synchronized script from now on.
It's not ideal but it does work in most cases.
