Changing service account on QSEoW

Hi there, there's a customer that is willing to change the service account and I went through this help page, especially paragraph "Changing the user account type to run the Qlik Sense services on an existing site" which seems to suit a little bit better to the situation comparing the other two.

The current one is a system administrator, but is also an actual user's account which may be in future modified or deleted, so I suggested them to change it with a dedicated one, let say "qlikservices", which will keep being a system administrator.

The point is that the guide is a bit ambiguous at point 9 when it says "The Qlik Sense Service Dispatcher must be running before the Repository.exe -bootstrap is executed" and point 12 where it says "Start the Qlik Sense Service Dispatcher, and then the Qlik Sense Repository Service (QRS)". Should I just start Dispatcher, performing point 9, 10, 11 and start the others?

In addition, I don't understand why they put "Qlik Sense repository service" and "Services" link in the middle of point 9 and 11 without any further explanation.

Thanks in advance.

Hey there @AG-gugelbisolutions,

I don't change the service user so often, but from what I recall your guess is right: you should start the Qlik Sense Service Dispatcher before the Qlik Sense Repository Service, and then go on with the other points on the list (personally once point 11 is done, I would suggest to stop and restart all the services).
Taking a quick look at the previous versions of QS, I believe this is a technical error on the help page:

  • on February 2019 you see that there is no mention of starting the Dispatcher service before the Repository Service, but there is the point 12 (Start the Qlik Sense Service Dispatcher, and then the Qlik Sense Repository Service (QRS))
  • on April 2019 there are both

Regarding the services link, I think it's for a "full" documentation on what are the available option for each service (so, everything that is not -bootstrap)

I hope this helps,
Riccardo

@AG-gugelbisolutions I'm not sure on your question, perhaps one of our other QlikSense people can weigh in, like @Sebastian_Linser could give their opinion on this.

I know we have additional KB article on this, with video to help:

Hi @David_Friend , it seems like the article you mentioned and the help page I have cited do not always match each other. Maybe because it is 5 years old ?!

For example, the article doesn't mention stopping the services (at all, but it could be an oversight) and doesn't tell to start Dispatcher first neither. Then, it doesn't mention using bootstrap command line instructions.

I'm not sure this will guide me to a successful result.
