I often come through a question i am never really sure of the answer.
I sometimes meet people asking me the border between Free Desktop application and Server mode.
I think :
-> Server And Desktop get the same features
but to make a long story short, with free desktop: you can not handle properly rights (who sees what, section access, streams), propagation of data and basically, it doesn't make a genuine production environment.
You can't have automatically refreshed apps.
You can't go mobile or tablet
You don't handle security
Desktop Free: I consider it good enough for one or 2 people based on a file or eventually an RMDB, but going any further than that will probably turn sooner or later into a chaos.
But my problem is that i don't find any explicit official content on the limits of desktop
Lately a colleague asked me what would happen if he installed like 100 desktop app free mode and manage by himself diffusion of apps and versionning. I couldn't answer "with proofs" because i never found specific content on wether it is outlaw or what so ever ?
I recommended he doesn't do that. I don't know what he did since.
