Migrate Qlik Sense to a new server running higher version Postgres

Hi,

I'm trying to move Qlik Sense to a new server, I installed May 2022 and noticed that the clean install is running 12.5 and the old is 9.6

What steps do I have take to move this environment succesfully?
Upgrade the old environment first to the latest version and then move?

Hi @Benoit_C thnx for the info.

Although some of them are quite old and pointing to Restoring a QlikSense help site aug 2019

Some of them are only refering to backing up the QSR, using newer articles you also have to backup&restore SenseServices/QSMS/Licenses.

When using https://community.qlik.com/t5/Official-Support-Articles/How-to-manually-upgrade-the-bundled-Qlik-Sen... the manual upgrade could also happen if I do a restore on a new server running the same Qlik Sense version? Reinstalling the old server would not be neccesary because we shut it down after the upgrade.

So I should be able to use this article to move to a new server https://community.qlik.com/t5/Support-Updates/Qlik-Sense-Migration-Migrating-your-Entire-Qlik-Sense/...

Found this one to https://community.qlik.com/t5/Official-Support-Articles/Migrating-Qlik-Sense-Enterprise-Like-a-Boss/...
And here they also export certificates through QMC, nog only manually stated in the help. And saying that importing the QMC certificates is prerfered.

The help files do not cover changing the UNC paths using the QlikSenseUtil when following Restoring a Qlik Sense site to a machine with a different hostname.

Help does not state that you first remove any new install created certificates before importing them.

All and all you have to combine multiple help sites/articles and this is not quite helpful and quite confusing.

Hello,

Yes you can do a restore if Qlik Sense is installed in the same version and patch.

For May 2022, to restore Qlik Sense with a different hostname you have all info here:
https://help.qlik.com/en-US/sense-admin/May2022/Subsystems/DeployAdministerQSE/Content/Sense_DeployA...

And the above link make reference to this other article which is needed as well:

https://community.qlik.com/t5/Official-Support-Articles/Qlik-Sense-Change-hostname-and-certificates-...

As the new server has different hostname, the restore certificate step is not needed, you'll have to use new certificate with the new server hostname.

Hi @Benoit_C

The new server is running the same version, only newer PostgreSQL because it comes bundled with 12.5 instead of 9.6 which comes from a previous installation

You state "the restore certificate step is not needed"

Step 1 in restoring on a machine with different hostname is restore certificates
