Hello ,
We need your help please. We are currently in the process of upgrading our Qlik Sense environment from August 2021 on Windows Server 2019 to the August 2023 version on Windows Server 2022. Our infrastructure includes a multi-node Qlik Sense setup (4 nodes), and our repository database is hosted on a dedicated server (RDS AWS).
We are deliberating the best approach for the migration and we have some questions :
Q1: Should we first upgrade Qlik on Windows Server 2019 and then proceed with the migration to the new Windows Server 2022, or is it advisable to follow the reverse sequence?
Q2 : for the upgrade from August 2021 to August 2023, is it mandatory to pass through an intermediate version, or can we directly upgrade to the latest version?
Q3: As our repository database is located on a remote server (RDS AWS), do we need to perform a backup, and is there documentation available outlining the steps for restoring a repository located on a remote server?
If there are any documentation resources that could assist us, I would be genuinely thankful for your recommendations.
Thank you in advance for your help and guidance!
Hi,
Question 1 : Should we first upgrade Qlik on Windows Server 2019 and then proceed with the migration to the new Windows Server 2022, or is it advisable to follow the reverse sequence?
Ans. i will be very clear about this before doing any windows activity, you need to have a backup of Qlik DB, it is possible your drivers will be updated that can be a issue, dot net framework should be latest
Question 2 : for the upgrade from August 2021 to August 2023, is it mandatory to pass through an intermediate version, or can we directly upgrade to the latest version?
Ans. If you ask me, I prefer going step by step version to version noting any big difference in versions for example we do have a postgres upgrade that is to be performed and tested & backup of every version you upgrade take a backup, if you want to rollback it will be an option for you to select a specific version fresh install to restore backup & upgrade again.
Question 3 : As our repository database is located on a remote server (RDS AWS), do we need to perform a backup, and is there documentation available outlining the steps for restoring a repository located on a remote server?
Ans. this can be a good thing as u just need to install the latest postgres using the installer

Note: Quick fix/tip take a snapshot backup of the server before windows upgrade as if it breaks down snapshot can be restored.
