A step by step guide on how to activate the new Qlik Cloud UI.

You may have noticed a new look for Qlik Cloud. Recently Cloud received an update to its UI and today we’re going to talk to you can take advantage of Qlik Cloud’s wonderful new UI.

You may also think to yourself, “My dashboard hasn’t changed”, that is because the new UI has not been enabled on your tenant, but that can be easily done.

After logging in to your tenant, you’ll be taken to your Analytics Dashboard. In the top right-hand corner of the Analytics Dashboard, you’ll find the waffle menu.  We’ll click this group of dots to open the launcher menu.

Within the launcher menu, you’ll be given a few options, depending on your credential level, it may look different than mine. From the launcher menu, we’ll Qlik ‘Management Console’. Within the Management Console, you’ll be greeted with a familiar sight if you have read my previous blogs diving into the various sections of the console, which can be found here:

In the Management Console, we’ll scroll down and select ‘Settings’.

Inside of the Setting section, we’ll find many options but we’re going to be looking for a section called ‘Feature Control’. It should be the fourth section in the settings, but again, this could vary. In the ‘Feature Control’ section, we’ll find the ‘New platform navigation’ option. We’ll turn this from off, to on using the slider to the right.

After toggling this selection, you’ll be asked to reload your page. If you have done everything correctly, you’ll notice that the waffle menu has moved to the top left-hand corner of the page. To return to the Analytics side of the Qlik Sense, click on the waffle menu, then Analytics, and then ‘Home’.

If you have done everything correctly, you’ll be greeted by Qlik Cloud’s new Analytics Dashboard! If you have any questions or run into any problems, please leave them in the comment section below.

Now we have been forced to it and our users really don't like it.

The big question everybody ask me now: "What's the difference between 'Insights' and 'Analytics'???

And I can't answer this question, because I don't get it myself 🤐

And why has the Qlik logo been disabled? It's a common internet standard to use it as a link to the start page.

@p0cket0m As I see it, Insights is a simplified interface targeted at consumumption, not analysis/development etc. It uses slightly different terms to be more intuitive to new users - e.g. Browse instead of Catalog. It can have a customised home page (which Analytics can't) and it only shows Apps so users don't see data files etc even if they have permission to view them in other places.

As for the Qlik logo, I asked the product team about this when we were trialling it and they said that they wanted to encourage (force?) people to use the menu that pops over to get the most benefit from the navigation rather than going back to a home page each time. I'm not sure it was the right call to be honest, but they had at least thought about it!

We've also seen it enabled across tenants where it wasn't turned on in settings. I'm not sure if Qlik intended to do this as there's been no announcement that I've seen...

@AlexOmetis Thanks for your fast reply.

We would like to disable either Insights or Analytics because both menus are highly redundant. I explained it a bit in more detail here: https://community.qlik.com/t5/Move-to-SaaS/How-to-disable-Insights-in-new-Cloud-UI/td-p/2480768

For the Qlik logo, I recommend activate it again and navigate users to the Start location they defined in their profile settings:

We also wondered why there was no announcement. The option in the MMC to switch between old/new UI is gone now.

Thanks for now forcing the update on the general tenants.

Thanks also for breaking the custom extension we're using that relies on the old navigation method, and to deprecate all the training materials we have related to step-by-step screenshots to not so techie users that couldn't care less about how "fancy" and "new" all these shiny new stuffs and just want to have their work done.

The only thing you'll get by "forcing" users your way, is to force companies to not use Qlik anymore.

We tested it with analyzer users, they can definitely see both tabs. Moreover Analyzer Users have the +Create Button, where they can create automations - which is totally wrong! We don't want Analyzers to create any content!

It's horrible and I will escalate this now.
