Good morning, we are migrating QlikSense Enterprise from one machine to a new one. We have done this several times without any problems with Active Directory users, but now we are faced with migrating local users.
Apart from recreating the users on the new machine and modifying the user directory with PGadmin, we have a question:
How do we change the licenses assigned to users?
When we do the restore, the licenses will remain with SERVER1\user, and we need to change them to SERVER2\user. We cannot remove them because they are in quarantine....
Do you know how to make this change?
Thank you very much for your help!
Best regards!
Migrating local Windows users between machines is more complex than migrating AD users, and, understandably, this caught you by surprise, since previous migrations worked smoothly.
On the license question, we need to be transparent: the quarantine period on reassigned licenses is a deliberate enforcement mechanism built into Qlik's licensing model. It cannot be bypassed or overridden. This applies regardless of the reason for the reassignment, including server migrations. The purpose is to prevent the same license from being in use on two identities simultaneously, even temporarily.
That said, here are some things worth exploring to minimize the impact:
Time your migration to minimize disruption. If you can plan the cutover so that users won't need access during the quarantine window, the problem largely solves itself.
Raise it with your Qlik account team. While Support cannot override quarantine, your account manager may be able to engage Qlik's licensing team
