Upgrading Qlik Sense: What Happens if PostgreSQL Service is Down?

Hello Qlikkies,

What happens if you attempt to upgrade Qlik Sense Client-Managed while using an unbundled PostgreSQL 14, but the PostgreSQL service isn't running?

Does the upgrade fail? Does Qlik Sense get deleted and not reinstalled? Will it finish successfully?

Best regards,
Farshad

Hi @Farshad_Razor

Are you using dedicated PostgreSQL for your Qlik Sense setup?

Hi,

The PostgreSQL is one that has been upgraded with the QPI to 14.8. So the PostgreSQL is only used for Qlik.

Hi @Farshad_Razor

There are two type of configurations for PostgreSQL with Qlik Sense. One comes bundled with Qlik Sense and another you can install as standalone PostgreSQL database ad same can be used as repository database in Qlik Sense.

If you are using bundled and planning to upgrade to 14.8 using Qlik Postgres Installer, then yes you need to keep Qlik Sense Repository Database service running.

You can refer to below article which explains how you can use QPI to upgrade Postgres.

https://community.qlik.com/t5/Official-Support-Articles/Upgrading-and-unbundling-the-Qlik-Sense-Repo...

If your PostgreSQL is standalone and you are planning to upgrade to 14.8, then this is different process. You can not use QPI to upgrade standalone Postgres.

I hope this helps you.

hi,

AFAIK, it will fail and rollback, like a bundle Repository Database.
