Pre-requisites for QlikView and/or QlikSense

Greetings Everyone,

I have been hearing a lot about Qlik and its products lately. I looked into the site to make myself familiar with both. Though a little confused; probably its usage will clear up my mind.

Being in a Business analytics domain in over 4years now -into pricing and predictive analytics, and Risk management, I would like to explore using Qlik products for my work. In order to achieve that, I want to know what skills or preliminary software knowledge we would need in order to start learning both- QlikView or QlikSense ?

It sounds like you have the basic skills to start learning QlikView and/or QlikSense. If your source data exists in databases instead of excel files, then basic sql knowledge will be helpful and you will need to know how to set up an odbc or oledb connection to a database. If you have a lot of data from different sources then knowledge of dimensional modelling will be useful. Other than that you need the discipline to read documentation like help files, reference manuals, tutorials, etc.

Also, would I need to attend any coaching or professional classes to help me learn them ? Or the knowledge from any particular documentation or reference tutorials should suffice ?

Professional classes can help you get up to speed fast. So if your time is limited and your budget allows it then following a Qlikview training will likely be a good investment. If you're more inclined to do self-study then there are free tutorials and training you can follow (see New to Qlik Sense and New to QlikView) and a number of books you can use. https://www.packtpub.com/big-data-and-business-intelligence/qlikview-11-developers is a very good book to start with. How is 'QlikView Scripting (English) 1st Edition' for a start ? Will this be as helpful ?

No, Qlikview Scripting is, in my opinion, for a very specific audience that already has the basics down. Qlikview 11 for Developers will teach you those basics and the better part of what Qlikview Scripting covers too (and a lot more besides).

Yes, all books are important.

At least you need to go through QlikView Tutorial and QlikView Help.

QlikView 11 for Developers by Miguel Garcia and Barry Harmsen, is an excellent book.
