ORA-12154: TNS could not resolve the connect identifier specified with Qlik embedded Oracle Connector

Using the Qlik-embedded Oracle Connector from Qlik Sense or the Qlik ODBC driver package together with QlikView is leading to the error:

ORA-12154: TNS could not resolve the connect identifier specified.

This means your configuration files couldn't be found. 

Environment

• Qlik Sense Enterprise on Windows all versions
• QlikView all versions with the ODBC connector package installed in addition

Resolution

Oracle will use the configuration file sqlnet.ora to determine which files to read the database configuration from e.g. tnsnames.ora or ldap.ora.

For Qlik Sense add the files provided by your Oracle administrator into the folder:

C:\Program Files\Common Files\Qlik\Custom Data\QvODBCConnectorPackage\oracle\lib\network\admin\

For QlikView  add the files provided by your Oracle administrator into the folder

C:\Program Files\Common Files\QlikTech\Custom Data\QvODBCConnectorPackage\oracle\lib\network\admin

Cause

On a standard oracle ODBC driver installation, you need to add the configuration files after you installed them, the same is needed for the Qlik-provided ODBC driver packages. You need to manually add the configuration files post-installation. They will be kept when you update the product.
