In our continuing expansion of analytic SaaS capabilities, we’re excited to announce that the initial set of data catalog capabilities are now available in both Qlik Sense Enterprise SaaS and Qlik Sense Business.  This is the first release in a series of new catalog-related capabilities that we’re planning to roll out throughout 2021 and beyond.

Instead of simply replicating current Qlik Catalog functionality in SaaS, we took the approach of determining which catalog capabilities should become an integral part of the Qlik Sense SaaS experience based on what would provide the biggest impact to optimizing the analytic experience.  With this first release of data cataloging capabilities in SaaS, users will now see that data sets have become elevated to now be an integral part of the cloud hub experience.

The initial set of catalog capabilities enables users to assign tags and alternative business names to any file-based dataset, making it easy for anyone to find and determine which data is best for them to use.  Users can also profile datasets and fields as well as view sample data.  This enables users to decide whether a dataset is appropriate for them before adding it to an app. You can learn more about these new capabilities in this video:

The existing Qlik Catalog product, already being used by both Analytic and Data Integration customers, will continue to be supported and maintained by Qlik.
This new catalog capability, as well as many future catalog enhancements, will be delivered as part of the base Qlik Sense SaaS license.  Additional Qlik Catalog capabilities will be introduced as part of SaaS-based Data Integration offerings in the future.

It’s been great to see more and more Qlik Sense customers learn and adopt the use of  Qlik Catalog since our acquisition of Podium Data in 2018 - and this release will further expand the use of cataloging among our analytics customers.
