QlikNPrintingUpdates

NPrinting_CentDist_Reports_color.jpgAll products constantly evolve based on customer demand and technology Innovation and this is certainly what drives the Qlik NPrinting product team.  When the first release of Qlik NPrinting (then Vizubi) was released in 2008 you would not have recognized the product as the one you know today.

As we await the next release - scheduled for the end of June - we thought we would share what you might expect to find this time:

  • Extension Support for Qlik NPrinting – The ability to include most third-party extensions in Qlik NPrinting reports.
  • Metadata Reload Scheduling for Qlik NPrinting - Ability to schedule metadata reloads for Qlik NPrinting ensuring that developers always see the most recently built objects when building reports
  • Various Qlik Nprinting™ API Enhancements
    • User Selection State– Enhanced APIs to capture user selections and apply these to reports in Qlik NPrinting making On-Demand Reporting for Qlik Sense possible.  (This capability already exists in QlikView as a plug-in.)
    • Management - ability to build, modify and delete users, distribution groups and filters via the API which supports the management of users based on external systems.
    • Task Execution – ability to filter and run a Qlik NPrinting report distribution to multiple users based on an external scheduler or trigger.
    • Task & Connection Monitoring - Real-time task monitoring for Qlik NPrinting Administrative functionality which allows administrators to see Qlik NPrinting activity in real time.

What’s Cooking @ Qlik

Qlik NPrinting 17 was virtually a complete rewrite of the Qlik NPrinting product as the Vizubi team became more integrated into the Qlik family.  As the year goes on, the feature gap between Qlik NPrinting 16 and Qlik NPrinting 17 will continue to narrow.  Of course, new capabilities will surface as well.

Just a few of the items that we are evaluating over the coming months/year are:

  • Ability to Promote/Demote a report in order to move it from development to production
  • Additional feature parity between capabilities across QlikView and Qlik Sense
  • Updated Rendering Service

The investments that we have made in Qlik NPrinting 17 over the past year position us well for the year to come and beyond. We are looking forward to this being a great year for Qlik NPrinting 17 and its users!

Are there plans to include a 'TEST' button like in NP16 soon? How about embedding html in body of email?

Good to see the monitoring being addressed.  This is one that is hard to explain to users, that it is currently difficult to see what NPrinting is up to or is scheduled to do.

Not sure if the Task Execution to Multiple Users will allow the import of users from a file or database to distribute to?  That would be a big time saver if so.

It would be good to be able to strike off some of the features currently on our document of features that exist in v16 that have not yet made prime time in v17.

Steve,

Thanks for your question.

There are APIs to create, modify and delete users, filters and groups coming out in the June 2017 release. This combined with the Task Execution API which is also coming out in June will effectively allow you to refresh users without using the Excel file technique and then trigger a Task with the new/modified users. It also will allow you to use any triggering mechanism you like provided you find a way to get the appropriate information to the API in the appropriate syntax.

Alberto,

Both are on the roadmap but I don't have a specific time for release.

Clearly we want to solve the customer issue (for instance - I want to test my NPrinting project without actually delivering reports to real users), not replicate the feature from NPrinting 16.

Hi Aran,

That sounds excellent.  Will the API documentation be released at the same time as the product?

API documentation is already available with the tech preview here:

for me the direction of a lot of new technology and less business value is shame

instead of having an API that new you can code everything ,

i would have prefer to see new features or missing feature that bring more business values

and more ease of use

the html is a clear case as now days users tend to read e-mails in mobile , and if they need to look at an attachment this won't happen

another direction i would happy to see is more features toward the portal, allow users to add filter and conditions  in thier subscription that way create a self-service alert mechanism for users

Hi Liron,

Thanks for the comments and suggestions for future releases of NPrinting. Almost all of the features added are as a response to customer suggestions and also primarily in the case of NP17 to close the feature gap with NP16. Please keep the suggestions coming and we will endeavor to respond when possible.

All the Best

Hope the preview issue gets resolved. It's taking forever to open a preview now. This is the most important thing our company is looking for.
