Font not working - "This font is not yet supported"

Hello

We have a client that when they try to use their font(font name omitted due to privacy of client) in NPrinting, they get the error message: "This font is not yet supported"

They tried to convert the file to ttf as shown in the article:
https://community.qlik.com/t5/Official-Support-Articles/Custom-fonts-in-NPrinting-PDF-reports-do-not... correctly/ta-p/1714527

=> Nothing helps, it doesn't work

The font is installed both on NPrinting and on the QlikSense server where the Dashboard is located.
Do you have any idea how to make this font available?

They have

Qlik NPrinting May 2022 SR4 - version 22.15.14.0
Qlik Sense February 2023 Patch1 - 14.113.3

Maybe a sync to QS and QNP versions? Update to NPrinting?

Thank you!

Hi,

About custom fonts: https://help.qlik.com/en-US/nprinting/May2023/Content/NPrinting/Troubleshooting/Fonts-do-not-display...

Then it is not clear when they get the error message: "This font is not yet supported". What are the steps to reproduce?

Best Regards,

Ruggero

Hi @Ruggero_Piccoli

The issue presents itself in a report where the client's bespoke font is used (it's in .ttf format).

Also, all the servers, engines and computers the font is likely to be used, have the font installed.

The client will try and reproduce the issue on Monday, so we can have the steps to ascertain how it is working.

Best Regards

Hello @RuiSalgueiro ,

Another important information: what type of report is used? HTML, Pixel Perfect, Excel, Word or PowerPoint? And what's the format for the output.

In my experience, the font must be installed in all nodes of NPrinting, and in the computer where the client develop the report using NPrinting Designer. In addition must be installed in the computers of the receivers if he distributes in doc, xls or ppt format or equivalent; reports distributed in PDF format don't require the font.

Example:

  • Pixel Perfect exported in PDF --> don't require
  • Excel exported as XLSX --> require
  • Excel exported as PDF --> don't require
  • Word and Power Point same as Excel
  • HTML exported as HTML --> there are a lot of cases based on how the page is developed and how it's viewed

In NPrinting nodes the font must be visible for the NPrinting service account, so you could install it only for him or for all users.

Hello @andregas  and @Ruggero_Piccoli

The client made all the suggested steps, and:

"unfortunately it still doesn't work.
We tried on another designer workstation and it is the same problem
The report is "Pixel Perfect exported in PDF""...

So we are looking to you for more hints...

Thanks to all your continued help

Best Regards

Rui

Hi,

As per @andregas answer PixelPerfect templates exported in PDF don't require you install the font in the destination machine because, by default, they are embedded.

Embedding fonts in PDF could be disabled in PixelPerfect templates to reduce the size of generated reports. Check the option:

Ruggero_Piccoli_0-1697447678841.png

if it is set to a value different than empty it means that fonts are not embedded and they must be installed on the computer where the generated PDF is opened.

You can try to open a PDF in one of the Qlik NPrinting Engines where you have the font installed.

Best Regards,

Ruggero
