Hi,
I am a bit confused about circumstances in which metadata should be reloaded.
I know metadata should be reloaded when you have new objects in a QlikView document that you want to use in NPrinting.
But what about when you have made changes to expressions of existing objects?
Or if you have added new variables?
If a connection is based on a QVP connection, should metadata be reloaded when you want to reflect new data? The QlikView Server automatically performs a reload and the NPrinting report is supposed to run after so not sure in this.
What other circumstances should you reload metadata? And does is differ for Qlik Sense and QlikView (please go into detail what those differences are)?
This would be ideal, but since it is QlikSense i thought it would push new data right after reload....
"I did a test: I opened a session in a hub, reloaded data via QMC and numbers updated right after reload without having to restart the session"
Metadata reload will possibly take too much time, right?
cheers
Lech
Hi,
The reload metadata force the connection to be closed and reopened. So it should read the updated data from Qlik Sense. Data should come from the server without the need of this operation but I would to test it in this case where a variable is involved.

I tested it a lot. Also with a separate app for task triggering, variables were not updated after a reload. For me it is not clear when a varible gets updated in NPrinting. After each reload I was getting the variable value from the reload before.
So I removed all variables. I am using only Qlik Sense objects. They get updated directly after each reload.
Hi,
Please open also a support ticket. We need to deeper investigate this issue and in case create a bug.
When you reload a Qlik Sense app normally you don't need to run also a metadata refresh in Qlik NPrinting. Qlik Sense data are pushed and all reports produced in Qlik NPrinting should be updated. The Qlik NPrinting metadata reload is necessary only if you change the structure of the Qlik Sense app. For example if you add a chart and you want to use it in a report.
If in some cases, for example with variables, this is not working it means that it must be better investigated.
Best Regards,
Ruggero

I very recently updated to the Feb 2018 NPrinting -- based on one of your posts that said an update is needed if the reload just is always 'regenerating'...that worked and everything is crazy faster...so all that is good.
I have a report/tast Server connected... so using qvp:// etc...
I can connect to a report, run what I need to and that is great and now even faster as mentioned.
But,
when I go to rerun it the next day, if fails unless I refresh the data.
I'm not understanding why if I am connected via server and havent' changed any structures.
I have a QVW on a Private Folder, Run QV Publisher to publish that QVW to a Public folder (and the Public one is what I am connected too).
if feels like it should just run and not make me refresh since it is server connected.
Hopefully I've explained that you can explain what is going wrong.
Thanks, Brooks
