Hi All,
The organization I work with is about to purchase Qlikview Business Edition with 5-10 Named CALs and about 20 Document CALs to start with.
Now, we do not have a directory service deployed and we are also not on a domain. All of us log in via WORKGROUP.
I would need to understand how Qlikview will authenticate a user connecting to the server via web browser without the LDAP/AD in place. Is that even possible?
We will be installing Qlikview on a Win 2008 64bit Standard Edition server, most likely using IIS to host the pages. All users will be connecting (Intranet only) via IE6, 7 or 8.
Any help would be appreciated.

You may use your USER / PASSWORD tables from your into your QV applications.
You can create Custom users in Qlikview also.
That means that you will have your own users / groups and passwords used by Qlikview server and not related to AD / LDAP.
Then the rights are set up in section access of the document
To do this you must set up a Directory Service connector into CUSTOM node.

Hi, Thanks for the reply. I think I get it. Create a list of users/groups using the CUSTOM directory service provider and then limit access within the section access of the document.
Would that mean that the user would need to log in twice? One to authenticate against the custom directory service and again when he/she tries to open the document?
NOTE: Is the usage of the CUSTOM directory service provider available in Qlikview Business Edition?
Custom users are avalaible in Enterprise edition only. (To be verified...)
With custom users, users will only connect on the portal. Then will be able to access applications withour relogin.

Hi Everyone:
I am re-opening the above discussion, since I am coming across the same situation with one of my client.
One of my client has got work group setup instead of domain. QV SBE has been purchased by the client. The Database server and QV server is installed in two different machines. As mentioned above we have created few users in QlikView servers. By using these user-id, users are able to see the access point and access the App. So they need to login twice
1) To go to access point by using user-id and password created in Qv Server
2) Using Section Access to control who is authorized to view which App
In this scenario,
How Named Cal come into picture. Do we still need to define those users in Named Cal ?
How to establish connectivity between Database server and Qv server. The back-end DB is Sqlserver.
Any document or suggestion would be highly appreciated.
Kind Regards,
Bimala
