Hi, all,

We will implement a server re-install in a new server as well in some few days. Thanks for all your info here. Hope everything goes well.

Hi Ali,

We have successfully completed relocating the QlikView Services from one machine to another machine. These are the steps that we have followed...

  1. Stop all QlikView services on the current machine (i.e. Machine1).
  2. Copy the “QlikTech” folder from machine1 and place it in another drive as backup.
  3. On the new machine, install a QlikView Server.

Followed Server Installation Guide:

  • Used Windows Server 2012 R2 Standard
  • Full installation with Web Server
  • End of installation on New Machine
  • Server rebooted
  • After reboot all Services should be on running mode.

Followed QV 11 Upgrade and Migration Document & Other... and Ensure to stop all Services on New machine

  1. .ini file (%ProgramData%\QlikTech\QlikView Server “as is” from machine1 to the machine2 (that is, keep the folder name).
  2. Rename the %ProgramData%\QlikTech\ManagementService\qvpr_<NewMachineName>.ini file. (If already exists then ignore)
  3. Copy the CalData.pgo file (or the folder configured as Document root folder) (%ProgramData%\QlikTech\Documents from machine1 to machine2).
  4. Copy the Lef.txt file from %ProgramData%\QlikTech from machine1 to machine2.
  5. Copy the Config.xml file (%ProgramData%\QlikTech\Web Server (follow same steps from the document)
  6. Change all references to <current machine> to <New Machine> in the following files:

                        ProgramData\QlikTech\Distribution Service\Configuration.xml

      • ProgramData\QlikTech\Distribution Service\Registration.xml
      • ProgramData\QlikTech\ManagementService\Config.xml

10.Change all references to <current machine name> to <New machine name> in the QVPR .xml files.

Copy the QVPR folder from New Server and place it on backup folder, and then copy the QVPR folder from Machine1 to and place it on Machine2: Make changes only these following xml files to be changed.

  • ProgramData\QlikTech\ManagementService\QVPR\DistributionService.xml
  • ProgramData\QlikTech\ManagementService\QVPR\DSCResource.xml
  • ProgramData\QlikTech\ManagementService\QVPR\QDSCluster.xml
  • ProgramData\QlikTech\ManagementService\QVPR\QlikViewServerResource.xml
  • ProgramData\QlikTech\ManagementService\QVPR\QVSCluster.xml
  • ProgramData\QlikTech\ManagementService\QVPR\QvWebServiceResource.xml
  • ProgramData\QlikTech\ManagementService\QVPR\DirectoryResource.xml (only Domain name to reflect on this .xml file)

  • Apply license with control number and LEF.
  • Start the QlikView services on the new machine.
  • Verify QMS ‘System’ tab for configuration settings
  • Reboot the Server.
  • Shut down/logoff the machine1 (optional).
  • Review and test the new machine QlikView Services, Server folders, QMC (for all CALs and settings), Access Point and other related folders.

Hope this will help you to complete the installation.

Thanks,

Nihal

Hi, Nihal,

We are doing the server migration now.  Using server windows 2012 and QV 11.20 SR15.

I encounter a problem as below:

After install Qlikview Server, and reboot the server, all the 5 Qlikview services are running, and the QMC can be opened without problem.

But after some time, 3 of the 5 as below stop working:

QlikviewDirectoryServiceConnector

QlikViewDistributionService

QlikViewSettingsService

And we can not open QMC any more, with "This site can't be reached" info as in the attached file.

Did you see similar issue during your process?

After a server reboot, these service can not be started still, and the OMC can not be opened.

As we are in the process to update the setting files, the services in old server are not stopped, and  the license is not added to the new server yet.  Is this can be the reason that all the services in new server can not be started?

Hi, our IT helped to find the problem.

That is related to the multiple certifications used when we set up a FTP client.

In the windows tool EventViewer, we found error info as below:

Failed to start backend web server. System.InvalidOperationException: Found multiple X.509 certificates using the following search criteria.

After improve that, then the QMC is back to life.

Hi, Nihal,

Congratulaton for the sucessful migration. I am planing to the same project next month, may I know do you have the same AD(domain) for these two machanies or just migrate between two stand-alone machaine?

Hi,  Angel,

We are doing the move/migration in different domains, though not finished yet. Because we used a temporary license for the test/setting in the new server. And if all are good, we will update the setting and license of our production server.

So the answer is that you can use different domain.

all,

Just a follow up for this for the problem when encontered, after the installment, we add a temporary QV license to QMC in system->license. But the license can not be set, and got error "Server failed to set license: QVS@servername: Failed to connect to server". After tried the method in this discussion‌, stop all the QV services, rename the folder:

C:\ProgramData\QlikTech\QlikViewServer,

and then restart all the services, restart QMC, add the license again, then it works.

Hope this helps.

Hi Angel,

Thank you and Yes we have used the same Domain name for both machines.

I would suggest to go with migrating tasks using remote management service and configure other folders.
