Hi, i'm really New to This, and have many things to ask..

Hi, Good Morning Everyone

I'm Really new to this, I just created some tables in QlikView Personal Edition for my workplace, showing some data of the production of the week.

I knew about QlikView when our manager asked us how could we determined some information (I would try not to talk about that information, because about policy). So I started to develop something in Excel, i had the information and then created some charts, and if i wanted to see my product machine name A, i can just click on it and then see which week. We have more than 30 product machines and i was able to click on each machine and compare from differents weeks.

When i showed this to our Manager he liked the idea, but now he wanted it on the shopfloor (production floor), he wanted to be able to see it in a screen and he could manage to see generally the information of our Line Product Machine A, and he could be able to see each machine of that Line A.

I talked to one of my brothers and he told me about QlikView, that for sure QlikView would do that, but that i had just to tried it and make some examples and all.

He was Correct.

I created some tables, linked to some information, and i could do the same as i develop in Excel, but it was a lot more easy in QlikView. I still have some issues and here comes my first question.

1.- I downloaded my Personal Edition, and i know i can't open other files from others users. How can i upgrade my QlikView, so i can open other files or from some other users on the web like examples and that?.

And about the shopfloor, what do i need to use to make this work. I have some ideas, but they are not really clear. That's why i'm here.

I don't know if Qlik Sense or QlikDeskptop would work better.

I have the idea that i will install some QlikView Server in one of my server, and this will be my main computer of QlikView. The others (the one's at ShopFloor, or it could even TV's i don't know, please suggest me) from Shopfloop i would like to interact with this information, so i can go to Line A, and see Producto Machines A1 A2 A3 A4 A5. Then keep walking on the shopfloor and go to Line B and see the information of product machines B1, B2, B3, B4.

I know its a little bit confusing all this information, that's why i need a lot of help, to understand this, it seems easy for those with experience, but for me its a little bit confuse on what do i need.

Even if i need some license even just to check information, or to only interact, i don't know.

Any ideas, please?

Sorry for my English.. i did my best.

Hi,

well, you will need at least one full license -"Named_CAL" - for the one developer supposed to develop and look after QlikView_apps. If you really just want to view the app that someone has created, then a "Document_CAL" might be enough for you, but it allows you to open only ONE app - if you want to just view them all, you need a "Named_CAL" again.

For info on how QlikView works etc., have a look around on Youtube, there's plenty of stuff available.

For more in-depth information, start with "QlikView 11 for Developers" (book).

I hope that will help to get you started.

In case you remember that sentence:

"You have made the first step into a bigger world" 😉

Welcome to QlikView!

P.S.: With us, it's like this: We have QlikViewServer installed on our company's server. Me, I am the developer and I have a "Named_CAL" to mess around with all the QlikView_apps here. We have a nr. more of those licenses for management as they have a "Management_Dashboard" with overview information and links to all the specific "Team_Dashboards" - the teams only have a Document_CAL each to view just their specific Dashboard - on a monitor (like all users, incl. management, they view QlikView via the browser, it's still interactive and all, and no need to update the software) - all there is to update once in a while is the QlikViewServer, and maybe the Client_software that is installed only on the developers'  laptops - you cannot edit apps in the browser which is an advantage if you give all the users just the browser_access (the document_CAL also doesn't include those access_rights)

The entire implementation can actually be managed using the management_console (QMC) which is accesssible to the members of a specific security_group "QlikView_admins". It's important though to document e.g. the allocation of licenses. That can be done by a Powertool in QlikView itself, but we have an Excel_matrix - easier if "outsiders" without a QlikView_license are supposed to view that.

That said, you can always export charts and "reports" (self-made combinations of charts etc.) to Excel or pdf so people without a license can view or print them.

Here in the Community you'll find lots of practical help, great blogs, best-practice documents and much more.

Saludos
