How do you reduce clutter on dashboard ?
1) put filters un the upper or on the left side of the sheet
2) format filters dividing in groups of the same size
3) if you have lots of graph and charts try to use containers
4) divide in more pages
5) use textboxes to create a sort of frame around the objects
....
Basically, by not putting it there in the first place. Limit the number of charts you show at the same time. Either create more sheets or show/hide charts at need. Instead of lots of listboxes use multboxes or a container with listboxes or create a More Selections 'screen' that can be shown or hidden using a button. The More Selection screen is a textbox that overlaps most of the sheet and has listboxes, calendar objects, sliders etc on top of it where the user can make additional selections. Some ways:
1. You can try moving charts into containers.
2. Creating groups (either cyclic or drill-down) to reduce the amount of charts.
3. Make extra tabs for charts (Keeping in mind the difference between an overview and the details)
4. Removing extra "flare" from dashboard that serves no purpose
5. Show/Hide objects
Yep - in short, like whoeveritwas said "Minimize the nr. of non-data pixels" - which is kind of identical to what Gysbert said. Not producing clutter on your worksheets is easier than removing it.
I know from experience that this is not so easy as your dashboards will be viewed by managers and they are a breed that likes to see "sexy" dashboards and nice-looking charts and all that - on the other hand, of course, people have to work with the charts and they should be able to see the data that's important without having to look for it amid all the "sexy" stuff ... You'll have to find a balance there.
